ok how the hell is this supposed to be fought as a pure melee sword and shield build? once he goes into bullet hell game mode its pretty much over. i cant get near him anymore and if i do he will just do his instant aoe blast to knock me over. is there any trick to this that i am missing or does this boss require a certain build to stand a chance?

seems to be immune to everything aswell.

Normal Crimson Avatar? You just need fire resistance gear. It should be fine. I've killed it with melee chars (1h+shield, 2h axe, 2h sword)

Which weapons do you have?

i have 80 fireres. doesnt seem to bother him at all fireballs still deal decent dmg to me. his melee is lethal aswell. 2 hits impact break my shield and if he does aoe explosion into melee its pretty much instant death from full hp. his impact bar also never seems to go down at all.

What sort of build are you running and what sort of buffs are you putting on before you go?

i already said i am useing sword and shield setup. been doing fine with it since the start. but now it simply doesnt work at all. his impact bar doesnt even go down at all as i cannot stay near him. blocking his melee moves is also not possible as 2 hits is already enough to break the shieldguard which is just plain silly. plus the instant aoe knockdown move he can apparently do at will is literally instant death.

The question was probably aimed at what weapon and shield do you have?

He's immune to pain, confusion and burning iirc. In order to block his hits you need heavy armor - I've done him in Tsar armor and Caldera Armor with no fire res, but blocking his attacks with a shield shouldn't be an issues especially if you drink tea before the fight.

Try hitting 100 fire res, either by changing some piece of gear OR using boon + elemental resistance potion if you aren't already. 100 fire res allows you to face tank his abilities for the most part, but don't get too cocky either.

Also try getting your Light resistance as much as possible as well because of Holy Blaze, altho you should run out of his range to drink water if that happens, but since it deals high Light damage it's pretty good to have defenses against it so it doesn't melt you And also his abilities partially do light damage next to fire as well.

Now the weapon thing, if you have Brand - Chill will still be applied to him and it'd be probably best to use Fabulous Palladium Shield for elemental vulnerability (those two DO stack!) so that'll help your damage output.

Use Rage + Discipline + Warrior Potion for more physical damage (albeit he's pretty resistant but it does help) and for ton of impact damage. Swords overall have low impact so that's why it's a bit troubling getting him down just by using base attacks.

Shield Charge + Mana Push + Counterstrike is what I chained in order to get him staggered. Frost infusion should be applied to Brand if you didn't already do it.

I've killed him like that with Radiant Wolf Sword (same buffs) and Fab Palladium Shield.

i already have 100 fireres. he seems to ignore part of it by default.

i dont have tsar set. so not an option. i used skycrown mace before which in theory should be even better than brand. shield was the angler shield to prevent the pertrify bs from the instant laser which i find nearly impossible to avoid as its literally instant and sometimes spawns right on my postion instead of chaseing me. like i said his melee breaks my block in just 2 swings. no other enemy can do that. or could so far.

holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is negated as i used an enchanted barrier chestpiece before which prevents burning entirely which in turns prevents blaze aswell since it requires burning to even apply in the first place. status effects arent the issues.

its his "instant aoe 360 explosion move" into 2 melee swings. that pretty much KILLS me from full hp. and this move comes out so quick you cannot avoid it most the time. the big fire orbs are easy to avoid as they move slow as ♥♥♥♥. but once he goes super red mode and spams these red mine floating orbs the room is filled within seconds.

also pretty sure his attacks are a mix of elements. not just fire. but getting all resists to 100 seems pretty difficult to achieve.

Skycrown is a bit slow, but if you use Fab Palladium Shield it doesn't really matter as it'll buff any damage.

As far as oneshots.. well.. I never had that issue in my gear, I could mostly just facetank him while going ham with huge impact that Tsar GA has.

Never had issue with dodging laser either, he starts from either side so it's pretty easy to dodge. Perhaps try using armor that gives you more impact resistance?

managed to defeat it finally. died once. ran back. for some reason he hadnt restored his hp and was still burning. realized he had only 20% hp left and bursted him down not sure why he didnt restore his hp maybe i was too quick to get back in there? no clue.

still fight proves that something needs to be done about impact and 1handed weapons that arent skycrown.

i would raise impact values for all 1 handed swords by 10 by default as a start. it feels far too required to impact lock enemies like this. not a good designed fight.

the djinn was better. same for the bosses in the sorobor parallel quest and the challenge bosses i fought. why? they all had fair openings and didnt require impact lockdown to win. this one did cause his openings arent fair at all.

hey are too short to make use off esepcially since that aoe 100% knockdown prevents staying close to him. if he wouldnt be able to melee you right after that move it would also be more fair. as that combo is absolutly lethal.

but please devs. dont make bosses spam. fair openings are required. even dark souls doesnt have a boss that spams like this (which doesnt mean there isnt badly designed bosses in souls aswell hurr bed of meme durr but you get the idea)

for example the amount of fireorbs he can spawn that float the room should have had a clear limit of like 10 or so.

sigh. atleast i can say only bad thing about this dlc was this fight and scarlet cancermisery enemy. both are bs and going too far compared to everything else in the game.

on another note : given what the scarlet lady said after the fight i assume we arent done with the games story as of yet....


also noticed. when you upgrade the hunting guild to hall you lose the first upgrade while the building is proccessed. pretty sure thats not supposed to happen as it makes no sense.

I already feel bad for your experience after you fight the Elite Crimson Avatar in Unknown Arena :lunar2019laughingpig:

That fight is an absolute cancer for melee lol. When you do it (or attempt to), let me know about your experience on it.

My experience is that I tried doing it with full Physical Tsar GA build and enchanted Wolf Armor (he does ethereal mostly but also frost/fire and light I think). But that fight is totally impossible to do with that build because he's a worse spammer than normal Crimson Avatar and he has 90 or 95% physical resistance and is immune to Pain and Confusion. I survived for 10 minutes of constantly whacking him but he lost only ~40% hp and in the end spammed me to death with his abilities once I ran out of potions etc.

Then I proceeded to try killing him another 6-7 times because I really wanted him dead with Phys build, but it's a huge #nope.

However, since he's weak to fire I killed him afterwards with Sunfall Axe and Fabulous Palladium Shield on the first try - but it was still a hell of a lot harder than normal Avatar especially considering that I have -40% elemental damage passive.

eh. will see if i even attempt him as none of the new gear seems that great overall. especially now that spirit enchantment got fixed. also there is 3 other bosses which drop the same loot i think. so he is fully optional to fight so i dont care about optional bosses beeing cheap. but storybosses on a TIMER shouldnt be this crazy overtuned.

speaking of passives. :now got the difficult choices to make regarding my settlement now that it works on its own supply wise.

got 1 spare special building left. probaly gonna be temple since i am holy mission. just not sure if that buff is worth it now that game is pretty much over for this character.

cant decide on which upgrade to put on blacksmith.
and have to make the difficulty choice on arena. its build. but really unsure which upgrade is worth more. i dont like the penaltys from most of the passives personally so maybe ill go skills with this char and passives with the next one i plan to make.



however this one will be a hybird melee/mage. probaly thanosmage. that build looked hilarious fun. wanted to try chakrams maybe.
