I went philosopher/hex mage/monk so you can go melee as well.
Plus with the new dlc if you join blue chamber collective you can learn the infuse blood skill. So theres that xD
Hexmage/spellblade/shaman
Spellblade for elemental discharge as it will use whatever your weapon is imbued with and it can be poison rag/varnish which will give you decay projectile aka long range attack without the need to sit in circle.
I would normally go for philosopher as im addicted to that mana regen, but with full jade lich set and that staff and mage tent buff you'll have 95% mana cost reduction, so you should be fine on mana with just occasional pot or food and you pretty much need conjure(imo) for that turret and it also scales with bonus dmg.
Spellblade elemental discharge also allows you to use a different element if current enemy is resistant/immune to decay damage.
