A Rough Start
Now with the potion nerf i'm having issues starting up a new character. It seems to take quite a bit of grinding and combat to even afford armor...the armor you need (in my opinion) to make combat bearable.

blue sand armor is a pretty solid armor for the beginning and its super easy to get!!! just clear a couple of the games in the startign area and youll get plenty of stuff to sell!

i dont quite think 850 silver would be considered super easy to get...

Think of the profits from alchemy as a nice convenience. Extra 270 silver /3 days or so.
It was nice but now there's the adventure of finding new ways to get by. It's the journey that counts. That being said I kept my steam in offline mode so I could start my third play-through without the update, Shhhh...

So you guys say this game was more easier to access before? We started a couple of dayz ago, and we almost quit the game, because various reason. Also, seems you guys know abit: Does this game scale enemies at some point to have more hp?

The enemies in Cheronese will always be pretty killable. If you are doing multiplayer I would probably do hardcore but I've never tried multi before.
I would prob avoid fights in the other regions until you have at least a couple breakthrough skills unlocked and some ammolite armor, tall shield, brutal mace and stuff.

Ammolite armor. 3x Palladium scrap + 3x Ammolite + Full Padded set.
Low protections, medium resistances, high impact resistance, one of the few sources of physical damage bonus (in %) in the game. Also gives cold temperature tolerance.

If you've got the balls, go up against the Shell Horror beyond the Ghost Pass in Cheronese for the 1x Horror Chitin, which'll give you a Horror weapon (Bow requires 2x though). 1x Fang Weapon + 1x Horror Chitin + 1x Palladium scrap + 1x Occult remains.

I wrote a thread earlier in the general discussion forum where I detail how I start my games and easily make overwhelming amounts of money, and that's on Hardcore mode.

Depending on your ability to fight and a tiny bit of luck, one of dungeons in Chersonese can net you 1200 silver.

I will never go hardcore in this game as I feel this game has a really bad combat balance and mechanics. Not even with 3 player (yes modded) attacking one low level enemy feels right.

But not at the start of the game. Not in my game atleast. I cleared a dungeon and only got items worth like 100silver lol.
Those items worth 70silver and more were so rare in my game.

I think they were talking about a specific dungeon there, not just any of them

I would suggest you to check out video that Churchy has uploaded today. Quite nice tips there.
I collect about 30 basic traps and then go to the bandit fortress and kill the three leaders with the traps. Then I go by the diffrent iron nodes and sell the scraps in the prison in the same fortress I cleared. The gems give the big rewards but each scrap sells for 5 silver. If I wanna do a trap based guy, I buy the advanced trap skills in the desert and then money isnt a problem anymore. The desert is a goldmine if you know where to go. Palladium shield and sword sell for 288silver EACH. Thats 500+ silver from one enemy. Steel saber and Steel shield sell for 75 silver each in the desert.

I highly doubt any dungeon that can net near that much would be too damn hard to even waste time attempting without armor

I'd rather recommend some lightning resistance, but its doable without as long as you have decent stamina buff to dodge and attack enough.

After unlocking mana and learning runes for rune trap from berg its easy early game with couple of mana pots.
