If you need buff time or recovery time, just keep one of the golems alive and use that time to buff while you're not in danger from a group of enemies and only have to dodge only one weak enemy and telegraphed shots from the lich.
Also if you need a breather, don't be afraid to let the lich go through a vulnerable phase and recover during that and small time where he resurrects the golems.
The biggest thing to remember is that this battle is not timed, it's an endurance battle not a dps check, take your time and don't stress it.
The fight is definitely a change of pace if you haven't done any of the things like the hidden bosses, but it's a challenge you'll feel good about beating when you do.
Switching weapons was the first step for getting through the fight. Kind of sad I had to basically abandon my build, but having a wide cleaving weapon with decent attack speed helps a lot. A greatsword or halberd would probably be good, in my case I had a Savage Greatmace.
The next thing was to take advantage of the golems' weakness to ethereal damage. Bringing Spirit Varnish and Mist Boon was obvious, but in addition to that I also crafted the Ancient Garb set. Then before the fight I also quick slotted the Haunt Hex to use on the lich itself. I think a runic greatsword could work for the fight too, but might be a little risky due to low impact.
In the actual fight my main strategy was saving Predator Leap to take out 2-3 golems, then swinging 1 or 2 normal attacks to finish others. During the lich beatdown phase I'd just use normal attacks, or if necessary, hold off and recover health / stamina. After the lich phase I'd sprint to the other side of the room to try and bunch up the golems for another Predator Leap and keep some distance from the lich's purple sparks.
Cheap Trick: Sometimes if my health or stamina got low with only 1 golem left alive, I'd try to get them stuck in the bodies of other golems, then when the area was clear of purple sparks I could drink potions without any worry.
1) What is all this "stamina 5" designation? How can you tell?
2) I can't watch the lich and kill the golems. They keep knocking me all over the place and I get turned around and and flattened and zapped.
3) Given that getting to him now is going to require running across half the zone and then through 2 dungeons, I'm not really keen.
4) .... nope, I can think of more fun things to do than bounce of him another dozen times while I learn how to beat him.
2) I don't know what to say about that. It takes practice but you have to be able to keep track of them and learn what are the good times to attack if you don't wanna die.
3) I'll assume you were talking about the guy saying to change your build. You don't really have to, I've seen videos of people beating it with a longsword and wearing pathfinder armor, so it's not an issue.
4) See 2, it takes practice but you need to learn but it can help.
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time, but it can be overcome with effort.
At which point, bouncing off him 2 or 3 times while I learn the fight, before I end up somewhere else on the map (bandits, Geb, wendigo cave, Harmattan Inn), and repeat the process, does not sound like a fun way to spend my free time.
I prefer exploring and questing to complex bosses.
But thank you for trying to help :)
