1) The one you like.
2) The one with the rewards matching your build. So e.g. if you have a build centered around ice damage, the blue chamber is a good idea.
Which means, there is no way to answer your question with "." as the only "information".
That said: of the 3 non DLC factions i liked the story of the Holy Mission best. I haven't finished the DLC faction story yet, so i can't comment on that.
Mage: Divine mission
Hybrid: Blue chamber/Divine mission
the best choise is divine mission if you are a mage.
but you can play all four story-lines by 4 different characters :p
I disagree with this because it's way too general. e.g. it's sensible to say:
Ice Mage: Blue Chamber (because of extra ice damage on crimson plate armor set)
Fire Mage: Heroic Kingdom (because of alchemical experiment)
Lightning Mage: Divine Mission (because of Infuse Light and Spiritual Communion)
They are all mages. If you choose a faction based on the exclusive rewards you need to go into much more detail on the build to make an informed choice. Even the examples i listed above are still too general, for example depending on the gear you want to use or the exact skills you take it could be better to go to the Heroic Kingdom for an ice mage.
Holy Mission: gives you the most info about the overall lore of the world and its history. Also is in my opinion the strongest storyline.
Blue Chamber: teaches you lore about the Berg mainly and their history. If you want to see what the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ people (really, everyone in Blue Chamber is an ultimate ♥♥♥♥) look like this faction will satisfy you.
Heroic Kingdom: teaches you some stuff about Abrassar region and what exactly happened to it. It's the most corrupt faction so it's def a lot of fun.
Imo comparing to Holy Mission the other two don't go that deep into the world lore, which is damn well done and very interesting but it's understandable considering what each of them is about.
DLC:
Soroboreans are a very interesting faction that really challenges Blue Chamber on the ♥♥♥♥ scale, it also gives you some interesting parts of the Aurais history and how it came to be what it is now.
The guys above kind of gave you good info on the classes that go best with each faction altho it's very mixable, I always go full melee with Holy Mission, they all can work with any build and have overall nice rewards (granted they're not required to fully beat the game once you get good at combat etc).
Yeah, but op seem to be new and I wanted to keep it simple. Btw isn't the extra mana cost of the crimson plate armor crippling?
That's why i don't use the crimson plate mask, i use the wide blue hat instead. The hat can't compare in terms of defense and only has 10% instead of 15% frost damage but it has -20 instead of +20% mana cost, -5 instead of +4% stamina cost and no movement penalty.
The boots and body armor don't have a mana cost penalty. And there isn't really an alternative to the body armor and the only alternative to the boots is the reward for completing the big DLC quest.
Same as Heroic Kingdom, the 15% damage bonus passive applies to all sources, so if you are looking for maximum your damage, this is the faction to join.
Divine mission offers some stamina/mana cost reduction, not quite useful for a pure mage as your gears already provide ample cost reduction, consider join if you are playing a spellsword or rune mage, which requires a lot of spell casting.
