Reason for il2cpp being the main branch is simply because it runs better and has no bugs which you already stated, so I fail to even see the point of this thread.
If anything I'd be grateful they're running both versions up to date and you can play whichever you want... Which is what everyone's doing...
When a game allows mods, versions of it that can't comply become obsolete, save for major bugs or issues, wich don't seem to be the case here.
Can you imagine versions of Witcher or Elder Scrolls with mod support removed in favor of performance? People would just say "Sc®ew performance boost and give back my mods!"
What exactly is the core of the issue I'm getting at?
That Outward sustain/maintain a no-mods version as being the default is troubling and raises eyebrows. No dev team should allow mods if they can't commit/abide to the decision (wich is done by enhancing/updating the mod client, not the other, "easier" one). Looks bad for them and to the community, this kind of behavior is to be condoned, never promoted.
They aren't developing 2 different games, 1 moddable and 1 not.
The 2 branches are just produced by them clicking a different button. 1 button turns all code into bytecode to be super efficient, and the other doesn't, leaving all the code names etc that allow modders to do the thing, but it's a bit less efficient.
And your problem is that you want best of both worlds. Performance of the default branch and moddability. Sorry that's not possible.
Nah, mostly expected/wanted devs to make up their minds and work in that direction. Dunno if they're done with this game or still plan some stuff.
About me personally, only played default when getting to know the game for about 1~2 hours, changed to mono to add mods and never looked back. Perfomance has not been an issue and, unless the game becomes broken, extra features are always a better choice.
It's obvious that the developers are going to use the branch that's chugging out better performance as main one and that removed some of the annoying things such as micro-stutter completely for everyone (some people had a lot of issues with that before).
I'd understand you if they only went for il2cpp build and no mono at all (even tho I play il2cpp build only because it simply runs better on my PC), but the way it's made now it feels like nitpicking and just stirring the pot for no logical reason.
Oh sorry my bad then, I thought the game had mod support.
