Play in VR (here's how)
I sometimes jury rig non-vr games to play in VR, usually not worth it. But in this game, really adds to the immersion. Those that already know how, have probably already done so, but some might own VR and simply never use it w/non-VR games, its they who might benefit from this. Otherwise ignore.

Lots of ways to do it i'm sure, for instance: I don't own vorpx, that might work the best of all, if it works w/outward at all, I don't know however as I haven't tried, but if you own it, prolly wanna try that first. Here's how I do it, however:

I happen to own the program Virtual Desktop, but this would probably work equally as well w/any VR vid player that lets ya curve the screen, even one of the free ones, perhaps someone else could chime in w/other proggies that do the trick, especially if one of the free ones has this same feature. I say this because Virtual Desktop is not free. I got it back when there weren't free alternatives like there are now.

So in Virtual Desktop, mainly it just to let ya see your desktop like normal in VR. But can do other things too.

I create a space that lets me change the size and curve of the virtual 'screen' inside Virtual Desktop. Make it giant, and up in your face, and curved, all up around your peripheral vision. Centered to wherever is comfortable for where you are going to be playing from. This will be seated playing. Now whatever is presented on this 2d screen fills your field of vision, even peripheral vision left and right.

Its that easy. The game world is already 3d, now it'll feel 3d.

So when ya want to play, ya fire up Virtual Desktop first. It should default into your setup up above. Then ya fire up Outward. Now both are running. In your headset you will only see a steam screen. But use a VR controller to select virtual desktop in the bottom center, then choose from the menu 'return to game'. And now you're in Outward, in VR, via Virtual Desktop, and it feels like you are playing in VR. Can turn off the VR controller now.

I also have my Outward FOV set to 90. Set to your preference, but its effects are greater when viewing through VR.

Some differences from actual VR. Can't use VR controllers in game, unless u use some sort of custom mapping. So no swinging a sword freehand or shooting a bow w/actual bow shooting motion, that sort of thing. Even if you remap to teh VR controllers, it'll still be one click skills.
Would be awesome though. Ya still use the normal Outward controls, keyboard and mouse or controller. Also - looking around is via normal controller also, not turning your head. It still feels 3d, since the world covers your whole field of vision. But you still use the controller to look around. Also, i imagine split screen would be disorienting as all hell and pretty much ruin the extra immersion.

The above works well w/pretty much any non-vr game that is rendered in 3d, where you don't need to be looking at the keyboard or off screen for any reason.

And here's a petition to get official VR support, would love looking around to be controlled by head turning, melee combat w/actual swinging a sword around, actual bringing up a shield to block, actual 2 handed firing of a bow, etc...

there's a tool called vorpx X, but I'm not sure if it's works with DX12 yet since I haven't used it in a long time just inc ase you had any ideas about using it for a dx12 or something ray traced.
