Multiplayer- Epic and Steam
Will I still be able to play with a friend say he bought it on epic but I'm waiting for it become available on Steam? Or do I have to buy it off Epic to play with him?

Yes the way this works is that the in-game menu has an option to create a coop game which then you would then give a unique (but not easy to find) name. Your friend cna then go in the game and look for a coop game (as can anyone else). When they find yours they can join. So I would recommend not starting your coop session until you know your partner is ready to join.

If he bought it on Epic, then he's no longer a friend.

Is this confirmed? I'll probably buy it on Epic but wouldn't want to isolate myself from everyone who bought it on Steam

Why would you buy on epic instead of steam? to promote more drm? Steam is much better for the platform -.-

This store wars drama bores me, buy it wherever you want. My question should interest even you though. Some people will buy it on Epic, will you be able to play with them? There seems to be so little information about how this game works

The point is, Steam has more games than Epic, it's where most of our games are, then developers take games off steam and force us to purchase on Epic rather than our preferred launcher, steam also has discussions so you can easily ask for help without loading up another launcher, it's about having everything in one place.

I'm not fussed about the store wars, but i will choose Steam over Epic anyday, just like i didn't buy the new metro, but i did buy division 2 on uplay rather than epic...

don't worry, you don't need to play with him, he bought the game on Epic so he probably isn't a sane human being

This isn't the kind of game you just join randomos and do silent runs with like an MMO, it's something you do with someone you generally know, probably on voice. I'm playing it with my brother... so no, it's not really an important question.

If we decided to play it and it's on multiple platforms we of fing course would communicate and get it on the same one... so don't ask if the xbox and switch versions can play.

It's kinda the same here.

Friends don't let friends buy drunk.

Nor destroy PC gaming. If your friend contributes to the massively increased expense and lessened enjoyment and freedom of a hobby you love enough, that is not a friend. I respect my friends' hobbies, since I like for them to enjoy themselves and not get price gouged. Even when I couldn't care less about it on a personal level myself, I respect it because of the reason I gave above. People were warned about buying into season passes, into buying micahtransactions, into buying into lootboxes etc... and look where they are now... they're more Everywhere than Fleetwood Mac.

Sorry for reviving this topic, but this answer definitely is pointless.
Did you figure out if the "cross-platform" multiplayer works, @Dylan (or OP)?
