(the only exception would be flying carpet... because according to mages any object that already exist in the real world can be used for magic purposes... and a carpet technically already exist in the real world so it wouldn't be strange if magic casters have the ability to have flying magic carpets as mounts...)

Probably more something they would consider for the sequel. They probably have encounters and distances between landmarks/dungeons on the maps balanced for on-foot travel. It would be best to have a world designed with mounts in mind than adding them to a game world designed with walking in mind.
