Mounts
I think mounts would be a great addition to this game. I understand your idea of travelling on foot to see everything and explore. But mounts don't have to be super fast. You could've tuned them to make sure they are not OP and do not allow player to circumvent exploration, travelling and combat.

For example the first mount you get in Black Desert online is a mule/donkey. He is very slow, players can run faster than him, but you can put some things on him to get rid of encumbrance. Why not have something like that in game? Instead of having a pack mule, your character is a pack mule having to carry all your things on your back and dropping them during a fight.

Mounts don't have to be lightning fast. And they would require maintenance/be costly so you could choose not to have a mount to save money/avoid bother.

i agree an open world game needs to have some sort of alternative option that make's it not a walking sim.

it depends on whenever we'll get speed buff options or some alternative way of traveling also tho... but I wouldn't mind if there were horses or donkeys we could have for mounts tho... but on the second thought I don't want any unrealistic fantasy mounts either...

(the only exception would be flying carpet... because according to mages any object that already exist in the real world can be used for magic purposes... and a carpet technically already exist in the real world so it wouldn't be strange if magic casters have the ability to have flying magic carpets as mounts...)

https://youtu.be/Pjhtir2Dg04?t=620 funny sonic debug speed tho...

The developer has explained multiple times that mounts will not be added to the game. Also the game doesn't have a big budget and it releases on March 26th so they likely do not have the time/money to implement all of the new features that you're suggesting to make it work.

A donkey in future dlc/expansion would be epic! While everyone was getting the different tier horses in BDO, I was always cruising around in my donkey. ^^

Maybe in an expansion once they get funding after release/patches, but for once I'd like to see mages be able to matrix fly or something creative to move around.

Probably more something they would consider for the sequel. They probably have encounters and distances between landmarks/dungeons on the maps balanced for on-foot travel. It would be best to have a world designed with mounts in mind than adding them to a game world designed with walking in mind.

Exactly.

What about unmountable "mounts" that just carry gear for you? Packmule.

Mules are something we've considered adding to the game. Maybe later as DLC. We'd like to have a pack scarab, we even had concept art of those early on during development.

I think you are missing an opportunity here to make the game better. Hardcore is hardcore but being stubborn and refusing to introduce a widely known and accepted qol feature is a design flaw. Good lick with your game anyway, I'm looking forward to try it.
