Is magic worth it?
or is it better to just go full fighter or rogue

Definitely worth it. The shaman spells for example have all types of environmental protection and damage bonuses. I haven't played much with runes, but I felt my character got much stronger once he was able to cast spells. There are also Spellblade abilities in the starting town.

I hate how max mana is reduced when you sleep so I find fighting without magic to be the most convenient and powerful.

Magic is great in this game, yeah it sucks with the sleeping but I hardly notice it. All you need to do is use a few spells and bam max mana is fully charged. This helps with % mana reduction skills and food that helps you regen mana. The mage tent for example gives you a buff for mana reduction.

You cna play full magic its alright a good melee weapon with the right buffs and skills does wayyy more damage though.

100% it is very good and very cool. You do have to play a bit more of a kite and fight aproach but it is still good. Plus it makes ghosts easymode which I had quite a bit of trouble with playing meele after running out of ethereal varnish

Magic is pretty expensive to invest into so if you want to be able to get through the game and have some money left over for whatever, a good dagger build or a mace and board build is always good. You can grab the skycrown mace rq from the Face of Ancients

There is a Mace-only skill that is pretty unique.

It pairs well with gong strike, because you need an infused weapon to use gong strike and mace infusion lets to parry an elemental blast whilst infusing your mace with that element.

reveal soul over a dead human to see their soul then spark on the blue orb restors a good chunk of mana and can restore max mana if u have full mana. it's honestly not as bad as people think once you know a few tricks.

the issue is actually around pure mages, you want to let your sleep run between 25-50% for -15 stam regen but it gives mana regen, problem is traveling between zones puts food, water and sleep all to 100% so that's rather annoying because it takes somewhat around 36 hours for sleep to fall to below 50% when quests are time based it sorta stops u from staying around that sweet spot for mages.

what kind of full mage u going? using the sigils? or rune magic? i would highly recommend only working on about 50% mana reduction and getting damage up over that 100% mana reduction.

barely touching it. Shaman, using a 1 hander and flintlock for fun, I intend to use it more once I get a decent mana reduction set, atm I mostly just use it for a skellyboy and was converting extra souls to mana but mixed up the spells today apparently.

magics not bad, the shaman one is a good buff to have because it increases the effect of boons, so even if u go more melee you still get a 50% bonus to boons. also it appears as though elemental weapons do the most damage. haven't tried the wind infusion spell though.

its worth for little protection like the resist, just take 40 mana if you want to become fighter so that does not sacrifice HP and stamina to much but enough to get resist, 20 mana is to little since there are needed multiple protection magic.
