Lantern of souls? Whispering bones?
Can anyone confirm that this item is a reward from whispering bones quest and how exactly did you get it?
Ive completed the quest and no matter what option I choose at the end when Roland sacrifices himself the Lich that comes out of him just attacks me and I have to kill it.
When doing the quest from beginning did you Diss Roland when he fails at everything or you encourage him? Maybe that's into account on what the final outcome will be?

mmm, i didn't diss him the whole time or encourage him the whole time. when he screwed up dumping so much for mana i called him an idiot but otherwise i tried to be understanding of his situation given he feels like he has no point in living as he will never pay back his debt in his lifetime.

i helped him find his dads compass and i made him the focus for his mana blade though.

edit: and yes i got the soul lantern.

Focus for his mana blade... Hmm. I don't think I've done that he never asked me of it. I just helped him get the compass and he kept it.
Does the lantern look any different from other lanterns or its the same looks like explorers lantern?
I guess I'll have to rollback saves and re-do the whole quest...

mmm, it's purple and never runs out. he talks about how he is having trouble with maintaining the mana swords form sometimes, you talk to the blacksmith and he asks you for some materials to make him a focus, i recal him wanting blue sand, a ruby or emerald and something else.

edit: no wait it should be before the horror quest part. you're told to take him with you and you talk to him and he mentions about the poor control, then you can talk to the smith and he will tell you he can make the focus.

Sweet! Thanks a lot man I'll re-do the quest!

I've got it. Thanks a bunch!
It was the focus that i missed the first time so I just rolled back some saves and done just the part before the horrors and got the focus crafted for him and he gave me the lantern at the end of the q

I had no idea his lich form could even be hostile! That's cool. I did all of Roland's optional tasks, taking him to the sea cave, the spell focus, etc. I guess that allows him to merge with the memories successfully.

He gives you a choice between the lantern as a reward or something else involving mana, which I did not pick.

oh what? when i did it he just right up died and the lantern was left behind.

Oh? My whispering bones was friendly, spoke to me, offered me rewards. I could also give him blue sand for hidden knowledge.

Now I'm wondering what the mana reward was if that's the result of an optimal ending for him.

(In addition to completing Roland's optionals, I was also nice to him and accepted the items he occasionally gives away in Berg.)

Yeah in my playthrough the first time he attacked me once he transform into a lich.
The second time he sacrifice himself and i got the lantern in my inventory. I only wanted the lantern really cuz it's cool ! Now i wonder if it'll work with Flamthrower spell!!!

It should! It's neat that there are so many outcomes for that. Makes to paranoid about how many other potential narrative branches there are, lol.

Sort of off topic, but did you guys get a passive skill from the ash giants after negotiating with them?

yeah, if you do the optional to get extra info and answer mostly correct you get a passive that gives 40hp.

if u plan to use it for that it also increases your elemental resistances. personally i just hung it on my bag as i didn't use that spell.

Aha okay, so the giant's blood hp boost is a reward for going the extra mile. I wasn't sure if it was always rewarded or not. +40hp is huge, lol.

indeed, but i always want more stamina, staying above 100hp is great but i haven't come across much stam boosting stuff. i also heard there is a way to transfer these passives over.

im about to start my 3rd run and do the desert/blood quests.

I spent a breakthrough point on warrior monk solely for the +40 stam. Very much worth it.
