stealth, roll, backstab dead. double to triple damage, pain and bleeding on a target to cause quad damage = death.
In the World of Kung Fu, speed determines the winner.
It's troublesome to backstab most mobs if they already agro'ed and if you miss you have to wait 15 seconds. You also have to be pretty close to the target.
For Opportunistic strike its troublesome to apply confusion. Your best bet is the War Bow but it doesn't seem to apply confusion 100% of the time, Pain is easy to apply with sword or axe skill 100% chance. So it's easy to get a x2 damage from Opportunistic Strike (the damage is laughable) but the x4 very troublesome and you have to use slots for a bow or whatever other weapon. I tried the cannon pistol and its not 100% to apply confusion and only 1 shot unless you're going to run and reload so I didn't even bother. Your other options for confusion are using a 2h mace for Juggernaut skill, shield for shield charge, or 2h sword for pommel counter. So the devs clearly wanted you to partner with a warrior type build to get the x4 damage.
I was using the 1h Skyforge mace and fully buffed with ice varnish, crimson armor, cool buff it was doing about as much as a x4 hit from a manticore dagger/red lady dagger with warm/possessed buff so I stopped using dagger skills altogether since swinging your weapon required doing nothing.
So honestly I wouldn't even bother with daggers and go skyforge mace, worldbreaker axe or tsar weapons for melee easy mode.
But for me i prefer "Leeerrroooyy Jenkin !!!" as warrior
When you go armed to the teeth heavy armors and big weapons, you are only useful for the first hour of combat before you lug yourself back to base or waste 30 minutes crawling to base.
You can achieve over 60% move speed bonus in this game with gear, skill, and potions.
Stealth skill enhances jogging stealth, making backstab a bit easier to do since jogging may become quieter as crouching.
Backstab and poison or bleed, then sweep kick to knock the target down if not downed all the way and then flee.
Piercing shot and extreme bleeding/poison is mostly useful in long range outside... But involve dungeons and traps and puzzles and you kind of need that stealth.
I guess it's because of it's short reach and that not many people like droping their backpack to get close and personal
The attack with a dagger interrupts the block, making a strike immediately.
The fastest attack after blocking is a dagger strike.
---
I have seen other players play.
They wear a ton of armor, and mindlessly wave a two-handed weapon, not even trying to evade.
It seems to me to be boring.
Therefore, I do not wear armor, and use a dagger.
I use 1h Axe, Dagger and Chakrams at the moment:
Brace, Chakram, Pierce & Arc /
Dagger, Talus Cleaver, Dagger Slash, Back Stab (still in Monsoon area) though not sure how my skill slots will change once I get to the rogue trainer.
Attacking out of block with Dagger Slash is super fast and you can block again immediately after, so once you get the Wide dagger, you can apply bleeding very easily at any point during a fight. Timing your main hand skill attack is a bit different, but I like the 1h Axe, because it goes through enemy guard and slows them down. So that's Pain, Bleeding, and Cripple almost guaranteed.
Backstab is also very fast out of block, usually enough to catch enemies with attack strings that leave them behind/to the side of you.
Also note, once you get most enemy stability below about 50~60%, every time you hit them they will stagger and interrupt their attack motion until it hits zero and they actually fall down. I use this to bully things with my dagger when I'm finding their attack pattern difficult to get behind for a Backstab.
I'm not 100% on this, but I think knocking things down usually gives them confusion? (I've noticed it happen to me at least) so in theory, depending on your build, confusion shouldn't be that difficult to apply if you're confident with your dagger skills and able to knock them down.
I'm actually enjoying this build much more then blasting stuff with magic (although, technically I still do that on occasion because Chakrams are magic lol)
