It is feasible but like most games its about finding a weapon that has the move set you are comfortable with and learning the enemy attack patterns as well as picking your fights. If you start out, don't go charging in against 3 hyenas as you may not survive.

Melee in a rough state yes part of it is because stamina drain is insanely high and insanely slow you literal need too have a stamina regen food buff running at all times while in combat. Another issue is armor not only making it impossible to equip movement speed gear like trader boots and bird mask but also having insanely high movement reduction effects ranging from 5% for starting armors up to 30% for end game sets which great reduces ones ability to avoid damage especially when fighting multi target making blocking all their attacks impossible when they start flanking you. The third reason is melee extremely low dmg output compared to other weapons for some reason most starting melee weapons do 17-20 dmg the starting bow does 22 dmg for some reason.

It is possible to make a melee build but the few issue i listed above definitely make it way harder than it should be. Honestly if your gona go with a melee build i recommend using bird mask and trader boots and just chest for armor so your not completely gimping your movement speed than use axes for its fast attack speed. Ignore shields sense their near useless IMO and use a dagger for more parry based build or chakram for more AOE based build unless you choose to go 2h which isn't bad either. Than also use rags to infuse your weapon with magic dmg against your enemies (poison for humans, fire for ice mobs, ice for fire etc) and always have a stam regen buff from either the green jam from melons in marsh, miner's omelette, or ocean fricassee.

The issue with melee lies in the long animation times which lock you in place And stop you from taking any action untill the animation finishes. Combine this with overly slow attack animations and You very rarely have a safe window of attack. There are two effective ways to play a pure melee character.

1) Use a 1hd weapon and a shield. You will utilize High movement speed gear with Lots of stamina buffs to Negate damage with your shield and Keep the Damage in front of you. The spacing, Which the shield and movement speed provides, will Let you get hits in while blocking all attacks. Its a very Slow style But effective.

2) heavy armor and a twohanded weapon. A key thing to note is While you are in an attack animation you can not be staggered, Kinds like poise in darksouls. Combine that with Good Heavy armor and you turn into a monster, Best suited to taking on more then one Target. Your goal is simply to trade hits. The style is fast, often Brainless and extremely effective. It is very important to note that this option is Very resource intensive. You need Good gear and Potions to restore your burnt health and stamina. The build is almost completly Non vaiable in the early game, But becomes OP in the end game. This mean i woundn't try this untill the midish game when you have the necessary resources.

Hope this helps :) I Left out rogue Options as i have no experience in that field.
