I hesitate to say there's a "best", but there are a few generals rules for success. Find something fast and/or high impact, something that does elemental damage (preferably the element whatever you're fighting is weak to), and do whatever you can to increase that damage source. Use rags, varnishes, elemental boons, damage increase armor, etc.

Warrior build bird mask, and traders boots for 35% boost in movement speed than armor chest for def i recommend storing any armor with special elemental def because you'll want to switch out for what enemies your fight say if your doing a fire dungeon wear fire resistant armor etc. Than pick a weapon type most are good some easier than others like spear, and greataxe than again try get element versions of each weapon and store them too again counter your enemy. Also make sure you always have element rags to infuse more elemental dmg on your weapon.

This game really is all about countering your enemy and less about 1 trick pony builds you won't get fair using the same gear to fight every enemy type. For example you can delete the bandit boss near the starting town with a few traps and poison rags takes while because all the dmg you do is from the poison but he will die. Oh and really important avoid shield builds there not worth it because all the shield does it let you block range attacks with the 35% movement from brid mask, and trader boots you can easily evade range attacks

Having started using a Warhammer build this run...

Armor. Strong armor is a must and will save your hide. Even with my Silver Armor I eat a defeat every now and then if I get careless.

From there, finding a weapon you like that's got solid impact damage and more than just the physical damage element is good, although making and using elemental damage rags before any tough fight is very helpful until then (and after then!)

I went with the Hunter skill tree for the high impact skills, then specced into Warrior Monk for more damaging stuff (and the discipline buff for bonus damage), and finally dove into the Mercenary tree for all the nice heavy-armor passives.

Honestly, as long as you have a decent weapon and armor, and use alchemy to give you the edge you need, you should be fine for most of the game, until you're able to find some Artifact tier weapons or craft yourself something really great.

define "warrior" cuz you could just [and I did this already] go any melee weapon, no skills, no spells, just food, pots and rags... spam atk and beat any enemy, just need to know what to use and when... [naked too... but better just go master trader to travel faster]
