Best way to make money?
I have done the quests for the my "home" in the starting area and completed my first cave for the mushroom quest. My next step will be getting mana. I have an alchemy set and know some handy basic recipes. Besides some buying resources and selling crafted items to vendors are there any ways of betting some good money?

no better ways of getting money than crafting and selling crafted items. the fastest non cheating way I have seen is to go to the 3 vendors who sell oil and then use water and oil to make heat potions and sell those, sleep at home for 3 days to restock the stores rinse and repeat. Pro tip sleeping at home feeds you and takes care of all your needs.

Mining often yields gemstones together with iron/ammolite/palladium/mana stones , which are light and highly valuable. Be on the lookout for Rich Iron Veins in particular.

*SPOILER* Keep your first tiny aquamarine and tiny sapphire to unlock the door in the mushroom cave *SPOILER*

I only say this so that the devs discover this problem and fix it, but if you dont mind an exploit and have a controller you can start split screen, start a new character and then in the new characters inventory they will have 21 silver. have them drop it, stop split screen, pickl up silver with your main, rinse repeat. Although I find this method slow and honestly just ruins the fun of the game so spread the word so the devs hear about it quick and remove it.

At the end i will post a video long 1 hour, it's not the ideal route but it teaches new or even players who are having problems with learning the map how to play at a decent progression, how to make some money, some locations they can visit and how to get good gear.
Now, the wrriten part:
1) In the start of the game pick up the bandage near the captain, you find a fish harpoon near the purifing machine, waterskin near the water fountain. A bedroll, pickaxe and lantern+some gear in Cierzo storage. And some other items like a pitchfork, axe, big axe and a lot of berries
Remember to buy the 50 weight backpack and leave almost empty from the village, don't buy any tools
2) Fishing is one of the most important ways to get money since you can get rare fish and blue sand
3) Mining is also very important, when mining iron you can get some gems, you can mine ammolite on the beaches and salt
4) With iron you can craft arrows, never buy arrows, just wood and iron scraps
5) Go through Cierzo storage and save the sailor on the beach, make sure it's night so you can gather blue sand from the beach, fish, get seaweed and mine ammolite, stay very far from the pistol crabs
6) At this point you can go back to Cierzo or continue to explore. NOTE: big tree stumps hide loot in them
7) Hyenas are easier to kill with halbards, chicken you will need a blow or weapon with bleed/poison or just something with very high damage.....Kill all the chicken you see until you get a mask with +20% movement speed
8)Explore little bits of the map and learn it, it you get lost it might help to wait until the night so you can see the lighthouse wich has a very bright light
9)There are a lot of supply caches and some dungeons around the map but also corpses, some other locations and bandit camps.....USE MAP MARKERS
10)The next step should be to continue to the sunken ship on the lower right if you can, at this point you should be able to kill a few hyenas
11) The sunken ship chest is Moon commanding the stars so Moon, Stars. There is also a bandit camp near it if you want to try your luck. OR you could go near Vendal fortress for a chance to get some nice weapons if the bandits fight with the pistol crab
12) Next head for the big Pylon and near the lake is a cave with a special encounter. you can chose other rewards but i went with equipment and it gave me the winter armor.
There are some other things in the area but you might want to head back just by going straight West.
Very important to remember is that the dungeons, mining nodes, fishing spots, caches etc respawn their loot all the time but at different interval so gathering resources is better than waiting for creatures to respawn.
13) Try the crafting, cooking, alchemy when you can....the system is really well made and the more you learn, the easier it will be on adventures

Other than that you should always be careful outside villages and be prepared in case of things going bad. Remember you can use cooked food to heal(or raw but it's risky) over time, sprint a lot and then just sleep.
There is a lot to say but i did most things in the video and people will always have different opinions so try to find out what's best for you

How would you propose they remove this exploit? The only way to do this would be to have new characters start with zero silver - while that wouldn't be horribly crippling, this is still an exploit for a non-competitive game. If people want to spend their time sitting through countless load screens just to get a little extra money at a time, I say let them. Let's be honest, you could make money significantly faster by just leaving town, killing a few enemies, and selling the loot, so I'm not sure I see the problem.

Yep it's really quite silly. Granted I'm probably in the early late-game by now, but I just made 2200 silver from a single dungeon run.

Would of been around 2700, but I had to drop about 1/4th of the loot.

Go to a hyena den by either letting one kill you or finding it. Once there, proceed killing hyenas. Gather the predator bones which sell for 8s each and are stackable. Rinse, repeat. Hyenas are easily killable by circling in close and hitting after they try to pounce and you'll have a ton of silver before you know it.

You’re only going to be able to make money if you go out there and take what you can find. Gotta kill animals and craft their bits into valuable items, mine, fish, cook, etc.

Be thankful you live by the ocean, btw. That salt water is super useful since salt is rare everywhere else.

Edit: I wish the devs added a living economy to this game. Can you imagine how much money you could make by selling salt at the towns that barely have access to it? Cha-ching!

Ok, so this is annoying.

Did the Sun + Moon and got random crappy loot, not a gold-lich thing. And tier 1 cruddy loot at that (a normal rondel).

RNG?

Double checked: secret compartment is empty, got a bottle of wine, a rondel and a potion.

This game... is beginning to irk me greatly.

i did that quest on 2 characters and didn't get that, mostly you get a dagger, it's almost a fixed drop

I think you two are talking about different things or you are being trolled. The chest by the wrecked ship always drops those 3 things or something similar mine was a dagger, wine and coins. Gold-Lich set is a drop from somewhere else.
