Blue sand vs ammolite armor?
Wich one of the armors is the better? Is the blue sand used for anything else?

Blue Sand is also used to create Cold Stones, so yes you can use it for other things.

The Blue Sand Armor is a very good heavy armor - it cripples your magic use and a little bit of your stamina, but provides very good defensive stats, especially 25 resistance to every element.

The Ammolite armor provides less defense, but has a total of 20% physical damage increase on it. So you will be less protected in it, but deal more damage.

Now it depends on your weapon style/character build which is better. If you heavily rely on physical damage, like with 2h weapons for example, the Ammolite set is slightly better as more damage is always to be preferred. If you however play a different build (or with an elemental weapon) that doesn't rely too much on physical damage, the Blue Sand set is better.

If you play a mage both sets are rubbish. Both also suck in the desert!

I crafted both (Blue Sand first, Ammolite later once I had the materials) and kept them. I then cleared most of the forrest and Swamp with the Ammolite set, while wielding a phys. damage based Claymore. I now found an epic claymore in the forest that deals mediocre physical damage but insane lightning damage, so i switched back to the Blue Sand set to make use of its high protection because the 20% phys. damage buff wasn't relevant anymore...
My whole point here is that keeping all your armour sets in your stash is a wise decision. Also, you will have enough money to craft all the stuff you want to have later on, so just go for the Blue armour set if thats currently in your reach and dont worry too much about making a wrong decision.

personally i preferred ammolite for the attack increase
there's another set (scaled leather armor) that has an even bigger attack increase at 29% but ammolite is a nice medium between being tanky or a glass cannon.

however, blue sand armor is good too if you find yourself taking too much magic damage or unable to dodge properly
