How do you find out what stats do?
What does protection do exactly? What about impact? Impact resistance?
Where can I find this kind of information?

There's no database right now because the game just came out. Impact is the force of attacks leading up to stagger and knockback. Impact resistance resists impact (genius, I know). Protection is actually damage mitigation.

have you tried pressing the help buttton when you are in the menu? it pops up a list of names for the icons . impact would be 'blunt weapon' its a hammer icon

Yeah, actually you're wrong and he's right. Impact is your ability to stumble and knock down enemies. It has nothing to do with blunt damage just because the icon is a hammer. Please don't spread misinformation, especially when there isn't a lot of clear cut information out there yet. Also, if you were wondering Protection is a 1 to 1 damage reduction whereas resistances are %reductions, meaning 47 physical resistance is 47% reduced physical damage. 47 Physical Resistance with 7 Protection would be 47% reduced physical damage as well as 7 true damage blocked. Same with elemental resistances.

Impact is NOT blunt weapons. Impact is how much your attacks deplete the white bar of the enemy you are attacking. Once you get that white bar to 50% your attacks will Stagger the enemy. Fully deplete that bar and you will knock them down. The same goes for you as well. The white bar on the bottom of your screen is depleted by Impact. Just like the enemies, once your Impact bar gets low you can get knocked down.

Protection is flat damage reduction (all damage types), Resistance is percentage reduction. Resistance is applied AFTER protection. If you have 10 prot and 50 resist against an attack that does 40 damage, you take (40-10)*.50=15 damage, not (40*.5)-10=10 damage.

Also note that any damage bonuses are percentage based. If your armor says +10 frost damage, that's a 10% increase to any existing frost damage.

there is a menu page in the game where you see all of this and have more details.
Physical resitance is armor damage reduction and it's % based
Protection is flat reduction
Impact is the damage done to the enemy white bar, the stability bar
Impact resistance is your base resistance+ the bonus

True every weapon dose some blunt but most warhammers and giant weapons do the highest impact damage rather than damage, why do you think warhammers do less damage than a battleaxe because they are impact high weapons and are based around knock outs, so i would concider Warhammer blunt weapons, but honestly yeah.. if your going for warhammers and drink a potion and a food that gives blunt, with enrage... you might can almost 1 tap knockout people
