Anyone else have issues turning in the mushroom shield in the first town?

I tried moving it to different parts of my inventory but whenever I talk to her and say I might have something for her the only conversation option I have is to say I don't have anything for her...

You have to select talk to her, then it should give you the option of talking about the mushroom quest and you can turn it in

Also there were two mushroom shields in the dungeon for me, don't know if both would have worked because the quest only updated after I picked up the one lying around and not when I got one from a chest.

I tryed all dialog options several times. Didn't work for me. This quest is bugged. I picked up the shield from chest before the one lying on the ground. Quest is still open. I sold both shields.

The mushroom shield quest seems to be a way of introducing the concept of "this woman buys weird stuff from you."

If you select "I may have something for you," that's an option to give her something that she might be interested in paying you for. I only know this because I found a heart shaped gem or something in the same cave she had you go in.

If you select "Talk about work," an entirely separate dialogue option, then you can give her the shield mushroom. It's separate because it's a request she specifically asked for, not the random stuff you can sell to her.

It didn't work for me either regardless of what dialogue option I selected. Crap like this really breaks the game experience for me. My thinking is the shield had to be in your pocket rather than your back but who knows, i lost it to bandits trying to figure out w t f was wrong with the quest.
