Easy money early game
Just a tip for beginners who are still getting bodied by Pearlbirds and Hyenas. You can make effectively infinite money without ever leaving Cierzo (and easily enough to pay back your debt without leaving the town once). All you need is an Alchemy Kit, Waterskin, and all the Thick Oil you can buy.

Set up your Alchemy Kit next to the water as close to the general merchant as possible. Buy every Thick Oil that the general merchant, alchemist, and caravaneer have (should give you about 12). Combine Thick Oil and (salt) Water at the alchemy station, and then sell the resulting Warm Potions.

For every thick oil you buy, you pay back the cost and gain 10 silver in profit. That might not sound like a lot, but Merchants restock every 3 in game days. So that's about 120 silver, then you just sleep 72 hours and do it again.

For added profit, you can also buy Turmmips and Star Mushrooms from the alchemist (in equal quantities). Turmmip+Star Mushroom+Water gets you 3 Astral Potions worth 8s each, so that's a 13s profit for every pair you buy and you should normally get 4 of each. Now you are making about 172 silver profit per 3 in-game days, and your debt was only 150 silver. Once the debt is paid before you join a faction you have all the time in the world, so feel free to keep going through this cycle until you have enough gold for all the skills and equipment you need for the rest of the game.

An update for other new players who find this post as me did. This method has been "fixed". Now thick oil cost 6 silvers, while warm potion worth 4 silvers. Similarly, Star mushroom (8s) + Turmmips (3s) cost more than the value of Astral potion (8s).

It seems they changed the production ratio of the recipes. Now Turmmip + Star Mushroom + Water gets you only 1 Astral Potions instead of 3, making the bussiness profitless.

Yeah, this was a change that happened some time back. That being said, a way to get at least SOME decent money early game is to scour the beaches for blue sand to sell, or hike up Conflux Mountain looking for mana stones for a chance to get some hackmanite.

What good is money in the first town if it only takes two hyenas to kill you? There really isn't a way to buy anything better than iron equipment. Potions and magic work way to slow to help in actual solo fights.

The trick is to use that money to buy the skill that increases health by 50, then buy the iron spear or great hammer. Then use 4 cloths to craft the cloth knuckles (if you have def ed or the soroboreans dlc) and wear them to learn the rage skill for free. Then grab the crab eye from beside the caravaner, go home, fry it, and ude it in crafting with a cloth to create poison rag. Then equip spear, the rage skill and the crab eye in your pocket and skill bar and go out.

Find a hyena. Use Rage, maybe the rag too if you want to but not really necessary. Lock on to it and keep sprinting to the side while pressing A and W and then attack to do a lunge attack at the hyena, which almost always hits. Rinse and repeat, most of its attacks will miss you. Hunt enough of them to get two predator bones, congrats, you just got a fanged a.k.a. bleed spear/greathammer through crafting with two predator bones, iron spear or greathammer and a piece of cloth in crafting. You can inflict bleed on targets which is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by itself, but use a poison rag on the weapon and now you dish out two hp eating debuffs at the same time.

Still doesn't make up for some of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you will see, but it will make early game a lot more tolerable.

That's... I think that's pretty overkill you can even take on Mantis Shrimp (or that Cutthroat Pearlbird) with it. But sure, anything to prolong someone's life out there.

Folks, go brave the wild and kick your enemies. I mean literally. With that kick skill. Because when their stability bar is under 50%, they just stagger for every hit they take until they falls down.
