I am a little lost in what to do?
Basically just started the game, done the bandage quest to pay off my debt and thats about it. Two friends have left and offered me to come visit, as well as the leader has too. Now I am guessing they are mid term decisions and there is still a lot of content on this map before leaving.

But I am struggling finding out what or how to do anything, I go outside the city, kill a few things, use my bandages and come back sell my scraps and repeat.

I have not found anything substantial yet to do, are there quests all over town I need to be looking for?

Any direction would be nice, I know its a 'sandbox' but its an RPG and not a dumbed down make your own content survival game as far as I know so I just need to figure out where and how to find stuff.

There are quests in the first town, Cierzo, just chat to people and you'll slowly be guided into doing some.
Talking to your friends and the leader are basically some of the first quests so try doing that and you'll be on your way.

Other than a few quests here and there that'll slowly guide you around all of the 4 game world maps most of the gameplay revolves around just surviving, crafting, collecting loot, making cash and clearing dungeons.

The general gameplay is way more fun if you play co-op with someone.

Or you can just play solo and sorts make your own quests and enjoy the journey.

Hope that helps, have fun

So there are more sidequests in the first town? I've talked to everyone I could find and the only quest I got was to retreive a Mushroom from Blister Barrows.

Merchants have repeatable quests. Guard chief has one but I won't spoil u details.

Yep, there are a few things going on where side quests are concerned out of Cierzo. Essentially, talk to everbody who has not left yet and engage in ''I Want To Talk'' to open more discussions. Once these are out of the way, build up weapons and armor improvements by purchasing Fang scrolls , and enlarge your world by moving around more in it. Just the starting province of Cheronese has plenty to keep you busy, including bandit forts , pirate dens, and ghostly fortresses. While OUTWARD has no organized save-it-yourself system, you can go back into the games Save Files and delete the last save that got you '' killed'' and head back to a slightly earlier one that can help make a decision if you are ready yet to go up against whatever got you ''killed''. Also, ''death'' at the hands of creatures loses you nothing but health when you revive. Bandits will take pretty much everything you have if you do not strip backpack for combat first.

Thanks for all the advice and tips, for the guys struggling, scrape together some kills, get a few silver coins, upgrade to a fang weapon/shield and the game will start to get easier. Then you can slowly clear the zone! I am guessing by the time I finish exploring and clearing this area I will be ready to move on.
Be aware when buying your skills - the skill in the middle that costs a gold chain, called Breakthrough Skills - you can only buy 3 of those skills, out of 8 in the game. It is essentially the class system, so keep that in mind when you talk to the Spellblade in Cierzo (Eto Akiyuki), even though the +15 to all stat bars sounds great you might not want the rest of his skills when compared to the other trainers.

So essentially when you look at the skills screen for any of the trainers, you will see a few skills on the bottom, a single skill in the middle, and few more on top. Those are tiers.

Bottom - Universal/Tier 1 - You can buy all of these from any trainer if you want to. They are Universal skills, so you don't have to trip about being locked out of anything.

Middle - Breakthrough/Tier 2 -This is the Breakthrough skill. When you highlight it you will see that it costs silver, and one of the gold chains. This is what is important, as each character only has 3 of these skills available, and you cannot respec. The reason this is important as well is because the skills on top are locked behind this Breakthrough skill...........

Top - Elite/Tier 3 - These are the skills that essentially dictate your "class", as you can only purchase these skills from whatever 3 trainers you purchased your Breakthrough skills from. Each one is different - as you see when you talk to Eto in Cierzo, most of his elite skills infuse your weapon with temporary elemental buffs, as well as a Shield skill. This is useless to you if you're becoming a pure mage for example, of which the trainer for is in another town.

Some people might consider this spoiler material but I want to spare you getting halfway through the game and realizing you're locked to whatever 3 trainers you splurged on first, because you didn't know you never receive more than 3 Breakthrough Skills or didn't even notice you only had 3 or whatevs.
