Talking to your friends and the leader are basically some of the first quests so try doing that and you'll be on your way.
Other than a few quests here and there that'll slowly guide you around all of the 4 game world maps most of the gameplay revolves around just surviving, crafting, collecting loot, making cash and clearing dungeons.
The general gameplay is way more fun if you play co-op with someone.
Or you can just play solo and sorts make your own quests and enjoy the journey.
Hope that helps, have fun
So essentially when you look at the skills screen for any of the trainers, you will see a few skills on the bottom, a single skill in the middle, and few more on top. Those are tiers.
Bottom - Universal/Tier 1 - You can buy all of these from any trainer if you want to. They are Universal skills, so you don't have to trip about being locked out of anything.
Middle - Breakthrough/Tier 2 -This is the Breakthrough skill. When you highlight it you will see that it costs silver, and one of the gold chains. This is what is important, as each character only has 3 of these skills available, and you cannot respec. The reason this is important as well is because the skills on top are locked behind this Breakthrough skill...........
Top - Elite/Tier 3 - These are the skills that essentially dictate your "class", as you can only purchase these skills from whatever 3 trainers you purchased your Breakthrough skills from. Each one is different - as you see when you talk to Eto in Cierzo, most of his elite skills infuse your weapon with temporary elemental buffs, as well as a Shield skill. This is useless to you if you're becoming a pure mage for example, of which the trainer for is in another town.
Some people might consider this spoiler material but I want to spare you getting halfway through the game and realizing you're locked to whatever 3 trainers you splurged on first, because you didn't know you never receive more than 3 Breakthrough Skills or didn't even notice you only had 3 or whatevs.
