Now go to the properties of this file and set it to: Read Only!
I copied it from skitkidnl who made a post on steam
If you dont trust the link just google cod4 servercache.dat and download it from there
however the next day i played it became empty servers. i hope i dont have to do this everytime i play
http://www.cod-servers.com
Our servers are listed there atm as well as multiple ways to connect, both WinPC and Mac options.
You can connect via (COD4 X), XFire, HLSW, QTracker, GSC. I even have links there for the Mac counter parts for this software. Since I do not have a Steam copy of CoD4, I cannot confirm if Steam will launch the game. If it does, then I can add a link for that as well. You can test it for me if you like and let me know if a Steam link works.
steam://connect/104.153.104.204:28962
Copy that into your browser and hit ENTER. If it launches the game and connect to the server, then it works and I can add that option.
Edit: Added Steam support for testing. You can click the Steam icon and connect to the server.
You will start single player doing so.
