Guys, I just got a 1.3 MB update. Is it a patch after 6 years?

This is a link to download the 1.7 exe file. Just copy and replace the existing iw3mp.exe file and you'll be reverted back to 1.7. Enjoy!

ive got a problem with this patch as im on pc and now on 1.8 and my mates have a mac which still have 1.7 so i cant play multiplayer with them. how do i downgrade

taking a look literally 1 post above you can solve your problem...

there are MANY hosting companies that are not offering 1.7 so in time there will be literally hundreds if not thousands of great community COD4 servers you cannot join without 1.8. EVERYONE should be using 1.8 and abandon 1.7, including retail disc owners to alleviate the issue with the exploit (unless you want un-authorized access to your machine) and to avoid confusion and keep the COD4 community strong like it has been the last 11 years.

VirusTotal, Winja, check the hash... learn computer science. This file was downloaded a lot of times before.

i know these, i mean how can u see if it is official? checking hash and sha256 just give u a string, where should we compare the hash and see if it is official?

Ok, ultimate way if you trust nothing except Steam:
- open Steam console (type steam://open/console in any browser for example) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=873543244
- command:

download_depot 7940 7941 7169272952747671405

(verify here: https://steamdb.info/app/7940/history/)
It will download some CoD4 files before the recent changes, with the 1.7 exe.

Heh. I just liked the single player enough to be content with it, but I can understand that multiplayer is everything for most people. Shucks, sorry about your loss, guys.

I'ts not suddenly buddy. Activision is known for not liking modders which is why COD6 and beyond do NOT supportin modding, as they made the decision that they were losing too much money back then, on peeps like me and many other much more talented modders making the older games replayable, so peeps won't buy the new ones. Sucks to be us.

bo1 and bo3 are heavy in the modding community

MP is the only reason to play cod4...

Doesn't seem like it for me, apparently.

We have had tons of people come and go with problems playing MP. MOst problems are with Punkbuster. If so we can help you set it up so you can play. Let me know.

People are saying they have Version 1.6 instead of 1.7. But I have 1.8. How and when did they do that? I have the game to update only when I launch it. Never launched until today, and was last launched months ago when they first updated and took most servers away.

COD4 had 2 small updates, 1 update was a downgrade from 1.7 to 1.6. Then a week later or so, is when it had the next update that took the game from 1.6 to 1.8 skipping 1.7 for the 2nd update. Been trying to revert back, no luck, still have my original CD to try installing without steam version so it wouldn't force update, but the CD install just locks up halfway through and sits there and wont finish the install. Made myself uninstall one of my all time favorite COD games thanks to this update, and after so losing all the active servers to play on, just sick of looking at a menu screen with no active servers.
