So just yesterday I bought Neon Abyss on GOG.com and today I was just about to start playing the thing. I turned my 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ controller on in XInput mode, plugged it in, fired the game up … and it didn't react 👀
I was so livid finding out that the thing sits there and refuses to acknowledge a properly plugged-in XInput gamepad as perfectly normal as an 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ 💢
So I went and checked out the forums over at GOG and up in here and as it turns out, the game doesn't even support any gamepads at all
And to think that all it would of taken was a stand-in-place button so you could easily aim with the same left stick that you walk around with just like in Flinthook 🎓

Sorry to hear you're having this issue.

The game has partial controller support, so your controller may not work for everything in the game.

What settings are you using in steam controller settings?

Can you please go to Steam - Settings - Controller - General controller settings and try using the generic settings, but if this does not work you can also try using the xbox configuration.
Please also do the same for desktop and big picture as each one may make a difference.

Like I said, I bought Neon Abyss on ＧＯＧ[www.gog.com] and only came over here because this forum's still more active than the GOG one.

And even on Steam, all I do is press Start+"X" on my 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ to turn it on in XInput mode, then I plug it in via USB because I don't believe in Bluetooth, then I fire up the game and good is.

Our apologies.

Are you using software to use the controller? If so can you try just using the controller on it's own with no other software.
What is the exact controller you are using as you mention Xinput and 8bitdo SN30 Pro+.
Can you also try plugging the controller in once the game is loaded up to see if this helps.

So I'm using the SN30 Pro+ controller by 8bitdo[www.8bitdo.com] which has a few operating modes for which you hold the Start button and one of the face buttons, most importantly the X-Input mode that registers the gamepad as an "XBox 360 Controller for Windows"!

Thanks for sharing that video with us.

Have you tried using the controller without using the option to make it as though it's an Xbox controller? If not, can you try this to see whether there are any changes?

We are aware of an issue with Xbox 360 controllers not working on the GOG version, so we wonder whether the controller may work if not being used as though it's a 360 controller, if possible.

So I tried using the gamepad as Direct Input which - naturally - didn't work because noone even supports D-Input anymore. And neither did the Switch and macOS mode.

So...It's been more than a year and the problem with controller support still persists. Got this game for free on Epic Games (and I can see why its free) and had a hell of a time trying to locate the file so I can use Steam's controller support to bypass this issue. You can guess how that turned out. It seems this problem isn't important enough to look into.

I'm using a Horipad Mini 4 (used for PS4s) and I did launch it through Steam as a Non-Steam game. I even set up a basic scheme using the 'Keyboard and Mouse' from the Controller Options for the game, but it still doesn't recognize my controller even being plugged in. It thinks it's some nondescript device so the buttons by 'back' and 'default' are just blank rounded squares.

Plus (and I don't know if this is related to the problem) it keeps pulling up the Epic Games authorization page no matter how I answer to it...and I pressed 'Allow' the first time.

Thanks for your reply.

When you launch via Steam can you please also do the following steps:

1. Unplug the controller
   
2. Launch the Steam client and click the controller icon at the top right to enter Big Picture Mode
   
3. Go to Settings > Controller Settings and make sure that "Playstation/Xbox/Generic Configuration Support" are all toggled on.
   
4. Then simply plug your controller and retest the game through Steam

Could you please send us a screenshot of the message that Epic shows? Is this when you launch the game only from Epic or Steam as well?
