Item descriptions shouldn't be a power up, just tell us what stuff does.
The only thing this mechanic accomplishes is players alt tabbing out to a wiki page [or using a laptop or phone for the same thing].

It's an irritant, not a gameplay mechanic.

Isaac has the same issue. I understood it for pills because their effects are randomized and that was the entire point of those items, but having to mod in item descriptions for static items or needing to alt-tab out to a wiki was stupid.

Eggs seem to be the "pills" in NA, and I'm fine with that. What you get is random, and how helpful they are is up to RNJesus.

I think hiding the description of an item a player hasn't ever picked up before and having them unlock as the player grabs them for the first time is also okay.

They don't even need to be displayed during gameplay, just put the descriptions in an encyclopedia style menu page that unlocks descriptions as you collect stuff.

Give us an in game reference where we can look up what something does before we pick it up. Either display it like the power ups do and just scrap those, or put a menu in the game that we can look it up in without having to alt-tab out of the game to find out what something does before we grab it.

I completely agree with this. When I played Isaac, the first thing I did was installing an item description mod, and when I play Neon Abyss, I always tab out of the game to check the item descriptions online (I recommend you check Abyss Explorer, in case you haven't already).

Anyway, not displaying the item descriptions ingame does nothing good for the game. It only constantly disrupts your gameplay as you have to tab out and check what every item does somewhere else, which is specially necessary in this game since most item visuals don't give any clue about what the item does (like Monk Hat -get a heart container-, or Dance Mask -upgrade your weapon upon taking damage-).

Item descriptions should be part of the game, not something the player has to figure out himself. Including stat changes!

I HATE how something like that is treated as an "skill" and no: it's not the same as learning certain power upsm how to use those or even learn map layouts in other games.

well some items show what upgrades do, the only thing I don't understand is the whole weapon upgrade system.
As far as I understand it only limits the amount of items you can take with this tag and that's it? Then what's the point of items like blue protocol, seals patch, golden apple?

Also the reason why I don't choose Amir, item prediction is useless

I also agree with this statement. Because what happens when I don't know what an item does, I just pause the game, Alt+tab and head over to the wiki. It was a cute idea in Isaac, but since so much other stuff is very random in this game (trying to get to Ares now, lots of fun..... not), I choose to do that.

It's not like this game has a ton of unavoidable damage crap...

as a happy medium it shouldnt tell you the first time you pick it up for the mystery, but any time after it should say exactly what it does
i feel like after get the item its added to the bar anyway, and there it tells us wut it is and wut it does. so for me, it just seems natural that the character (the player also) should just know wut that item does from that point onward. kinda like how beastiaries work in RPGs. u put in the work to add the thing so that u have the convenience in the future :3

i agree. i'm tired of games saying ''this improves X stat'' but they dont show us what the stat is at.

I have a lot of prblems with this as well. I have to have the wiki open to read the items effect since some have only a downside and there are too many to be able to memoryze all of them.
Item effects should be shown always. This is missing since the game launched. Still an issue.

They should show us weapon stats as well. We don't know an exact range/rate of fire/damage of each weapon. Some items increase the damage of the weapon but how much? Forbidden Mask increases your stats in all areas but what are they?

This is even more important in NA as opposed to Isaac because at least in Isaac the item sprites/names were relevant to the effect they gave, more or less. I'm finding that in NA every item sprite is completely unrelated to its effect. Bandage gives you dash? Why not sneakers or spring shoes. Bandage should be a healing item. Candy cane for higher fire rate based on pets? Hard mints drops a shield? Samurai helmet shoots a big bullet? Towel reduces damage to half a heart? This all makes it super difficult to memorise these items and their effects.

This is the only thing ruining the game play of Neon Abyss for me.. Why am i being forced to refer to wiki everytime i need to pick up something.. its annoying and I'm considering moving on to some other game

I think that it’s fun to pick up an item, try it out and just take a chance! Neon abyss isn’t a super hardcore game. I don’t play it super seriously, and sometimes a surprise is a good thing!

almost 3 years - 3 freakin years - and this *STILL* hasn't been patched or fixed (on switch, at least).

i guess devs think this no item description thing is a "quirky, fun, neat little special game mechanic", but I don't know how to explain it to them - it is awful. It is not fun. It completely derails the flow of the game. Having to check your phone or tab on the wiki for what things actually do is tedious, annoying, & pointless. This is an easy fix with one simple patch, yet it's still here. Why? Why willfully make the game less fun & a bigger pain in the-ass? I don't understand the logic behind that. It 👏🏻 is 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 fun 👏🏻

just one of a few fatal flaws that ruin an otherwise really, really fun & well put together game. It perfectly goes to show how just a few bad choices can screw up something really good.

I have the switch version, & was really tempted to pick up the steam version for my Steam Deck, so the game would actually render more than 10 frames per second when there's more than a dozen enemies on screen - but seeing how the game still is flawed by so many simple, fixable things, I won't spend any more money on it.

Please fix it, devs - I'd love to keep supporting your game. You seem to actually listen to many things, listen to the feedback of your players! Do some simple analytics & polling, ask what people have problems with. Or, just say "Neon Abyss is at End Of Life cycle, We're working on (Neon Abyss 2/XYZ/ABC), there will be no more updates for it" & make it final. It would be some closure, & I'd respect that at least.
