Worst localization in video game history
I feel sorry for those who don't know Japanese. They can't play the original games.

Most Japanese games are butchered. Sometimes it's really extreme like this game (but if I need to be completely honest - this game is kinda problematic because original one is almost impossible to translate faithfully without EXTENSIVE amount of TL notes for about 50% of all sentences) or Xenobalde2 (this is my real candidate for the worst localization in vg history), but If you want to enjoy your Japanese games as they were intended, you need to learn Japanese. I know it's rather a poor advice and it's not justifying the whole mess with butchered translations, but take a look how ignorant people are (especially US and their ignorance is progressing). Nothing will change. You can expect even worse things in the future (more censorship, more alternations).
I can't even name many games that were translated properly. Persona 5? Some PQube games? 1st Steins;Gate VN? And that's all.

It's always the Americans who do this. I don't know why. All the Japanese history books published by English speaking Asian countries usually don't reverse Japanese family names - given names order. But if it's an American book, the names are all reversed. Same as localized manga. The American versions are always the one that messed up the most, like Detective Conan "Case Closed" BS.

Well except ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Viz, they have Yen Press, Kodansha and Seven Seas at least. These publishers are doing pretty good job with manga translations to be honest. Especially if you compare it with garbage released in my country and how it's butchered ;)
But yeah. I don't understand why they are flipping name order too. And they are doing it only for Japanese content. Chinese or Korean translated media almost always uses Asian name order. Japanese translations aren't using Smith John, so why western (mostly American) translators are treating their audience like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?

I think this series is probably the best localization of any game I've ever played! It's not simply translated, it's full of originality and puns and colloquialisms. I think the writers did an incredible job of making this game fun and interesting to read, with characters that are meaningful and relatable, even overseas.

Ace Attorney is the series I point to when I want to illustrate the difference between translation and localization.

The localisation of Ace Attorney is widely considered to be one of the best.

To declare it awful, you'd have to either be a massive troll or extremely nit-picky.

Only ignorant would consider it an awesome localization.

It's as bad as people who put pineapples on pizza and claim that it's a true Italian pizza.

Yup, Definitely a troll.

This thread is ignorant bait.

I'm sorry, I never heard anyone who would say something like this. Many people just accepted that they are playing completely different game.
The opposite is pretty omnipresent. Most people didn't even play this game, but they know it from memes like "Eat your burgers, Apollo".

As I said in my 1st post. This game is problematic, because it's almost completely pun based, so if you wanted to do faithful translation, TL notes would be popping every 2-3 sentence (and it would be a nice addition for people who wanted to know what they mean in original version - second option with actual translation would be great to have).

But as I said too - not many games like this exist, so it is not justifying the whole mess with garbage localizations, butchered scripts, changed names, altered personalities and censorship in other games.

Okay, that's definitely not true. I don't see any further reason to take all of this seriously.

Try checking for opinions outside the hardcore anime fan community next time.

Most people who think that it's great are people who never played the original, or the fan translated version. They don't even know how the game supposed to be, and have nothing to compare to.

I'd ask how it's supposed to be, but I just realised something. I don't care. The localised version is just fine and all this talk of "how the game is supposed to be" is like claiming we should have Super Sentai rather than Power Rangers. Who cares which one is better than the other? They're both great and loved by many.

All I'm seeing here is the one-sided ranting of an obsessive anime fan.

I'm going to let the moderators decide how to deal with this and look for more civil conversations.

Yeah, you admitted that you only know one side of the story, but decided to say that it's the best anyway.

Ignorant.

Wow, really? That's how you're going to respond? Claim I said something I didn't, and then pretend to beat me up for it?

Seriously, what's the hold up? Why hasn't this topic been locked yet?

Can't accept different opinions.

Demanding the topic to be locked, and shut people up.

Good.
