Report a translation problem
I can't even name many games that were translated properly. Persona 5? Some PQube games? 1st Steins;Gate VN? And that's all.
But yeah. I don't understand why they are flipping name order too. And they are doing it only for Japanese content. Chinese or Korean translated media almost always uses Asian name order. Japanese translations aren't using Smith John, so why western (mostly American) translators are treating their audience like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?
Ace Attorney is the series I point to when I want to illustrate the difference between translation and localization.
To declare it awful, you'd have to either be a massive troll or extremely nit-picky.
It's as bad as people who put pineapples on pizza and claim that it's a true Italian pizza.
Yup, Definitely a troll.
The opposite is pretty omnipresent. Most people didn't even play this game, but they know it from memes like "Eat your burgers, Apollo".
As I said in my 1st post. This game is problematic, because it's almost completely pun based, so if you wanted to do faithful translation, TL notes would be popping every 2-3 sentence (and it would be a nice addition for people who wanted to know what they mean in original version - second option with actual translation would be great to have).
But as I said too - not many games like this exist, so it is not justifying the whole mess with garbage localizations, butchered scripts, changed names, altered personalities and censorship in other games.
Okay, that's definitely not true. I don't see any further reason to take all of this seriously.
Try checking for opinions outside the hardcore anime fan community next time.
I'd ask how it's supposed to be, but I just realised something. I don't care. The localised version is just fine and all this talk of "how the game is supposed to be" is like claiming we should have Super Sentai rather than Power Rangers. Who cares which one is better than the other? They're both great and loved by many.
All I'm seeing here is the one-sided ranting of an obsessive anime fan.
I'm going to let the moderators decide how to deal with this and look for more civil conversations.
Yeah, you admitted that you only know one side of the story, but decided to say that it's the best anyway.
Ignorant.
Seriously, what's the hold up? Why hasn't this topic been locked yet?
Demanding the topic to be locked, and shut people up.
Good.
