For cargo trains and RDO's a vehicle repair station, within distance, and from road association, will pick up those cargo trains and send a repair truck to repair them in situ.
For passenger trains.....
If you have a repair station with an attached train depot, outline brown box around the station when placing, passenger trains WILL be sent there for repair. It does work.
Using end stations is ok for associated repair stations BUT that is limited to trains assigned to go there, only.
A caveat being that passengers being taken to the repair station, by a train going for repair, often mean they will time out and teleport home.
It will work fully automated for both passenger and cargo trains....
Make sure that you have enough associated rail depots, with repair stations. Otherwise trains will travel a long distance to them.
Ships are not quite there tho.
