Yes, I thought so too and tried it, but unfortunately, garbage cannot be unloaded at the cable car stations. While the building can be selected as a destination, there doesn't seem to be an internal storage for it like there is for other goods. Even when set to "Wait until unloaded," the garbage is not being transferred into the cable cars.
Well, maybe that will be patched in the future. Let's see.
I agree with your opinion regarding forklifts, but in this case, I'm using them because cable car stations have only one factory connection, and the throughput is quite low. Additionally, in hilly terrain, they are often the more aesthetic choice, as roads struggle with steep inclines, and building elegant switchback roads is practically impossible.
Unfortunately, the cableway can only handle one type of waste (mixed, hazardous, construction, etc.) but you can always move construction waste down an aggregate cableway. I like to send construction waste down the general cableway and use the odd waste truck for everything else. Trucks are pretty much required though, unless you can get a direct connection to the mine.
