Rail DO incompatible with container storage
Large container storage is connected by rail, but when I try to set it as destination in rail DO, it gives an error "Building is incompatible". I have flatbed traincars in DO. How do I use rail DO for containers?

All distribution offices currently do not work with containers or vehicles.

It's been 2 years and still not fixed..

Will not be fixed, as it is a feature, not exactly a bug. Use lines for your trains - you can even set them which type of container they should load if you need this, so pretty well set up.

Sometimes people forget why there are multiple slots for vehicles in buildings and tend to use DOs as the sole way of transporting stuff. They are not ;)

Distribution Offices are the best feature of this game and what truly separates it from competitors like Transport Fever 2, so this continued incompatibility is pretty sad to see.

The problem is that containers (and vehicles, same problem) are not measured (programmed) in "units". When you have 10 t of crops, you have 10 t of crops. When you make a 10 t vehicle a 20 % more spacious, you can fit a 20 % more crops inside, aka 12 t.

This is not true for containers and vehicles. On a 20 m vagon you cannot say you fit 20m of vehicles. You can - if those vehicles are 4, 5 or 10 m long. But what about a 22 m long vagon? Or 25 m? Same with containers - you can absolutely fit 30 ft of containers on a MZ truck, provided you have 3x10ft or 1x10 ft + 1x20ft ones. But a DO is a basic code, it is not even capable of sending a "proper" truck for optimal capacity (it just picks the first one available and if that is enough, it counts, if not, it sends a second one - for 20t of steel needed it can absolutely send a 10t Skoda first and then 30t Mack E longhaul as a second one, despite sending the Mack in the first place would be enough)

You would need far bigger programming logic, as vehicles have height, widths, tons and such. And DO is not made to account for any of those, let alone compare the payload to its vehicle capacity.

Having a storage half full of 40´ containers in 1965 exporting crops/clothes would render DO useless and cycled in itself.

And now answer yourself - would it truly be so beneficial and crucial for your playthrough for DOs to be able to do so? In my games not so much, honestly. Because such goods I transport in

a) export; export lines of 10ft or 20tf containers (depending on vehicles available) do not need an extra steel and space consuming building. I´d rather have an extra few trucks for the same cost.

b) nuclear setups; same as above. For the cost of a small DO you have few more trucks and you need only few anyway.
- One line UF6->NFF (wait until loaded, wait until unloaded) and you can absolutely do it via common small container storage in the middle of two NFFs as an un/loading station
- Second line UF6 (wait until loaded) -> NFF (unload if possible + load anything extra) -> customs
- Third line NFF (wait until loaded) -> NPP (unload if possible, load if possible) -> customs
...
Most of these three lines have usually only 1 vehicle each. You have DO for urainum oxide transports and/or chemical distribution between all buildings, but there is nothing more needed honestly. If you need more, add a vehicle to that line (in case customs are far out and such).

c) vehicle distribution (usually personal vehicles and/or cableways). Again a single/multiple trucks are enough based on distances and amounts and line is much better in the management anyways.
