Cybernetics Enhancement?
Would it be possible to put an import stockpile into hospitals or some sort of shop and add a need to citizens for mechanical and electronic components as cybernetic implants? Maybe increase productivity and walking speed at the cost of happiness, with desire going up as time goes on like with normal electronics.

Wake up, Samurai! We got a Soviet Republic to build!

Only when you reach the year 2077 and have embraced Capitalism, and seized your republic to Megacorperations

"Cybernetics" had a turbulent history and adoption in soviet union in the years we are playing in. If anyone only knows the term only from neural implants and sci-fi movies its worth doing a history dive on the term as well :).

We did that IRL and still no cybernetics.

Theoretically possible in a DLC, otherwhise no. Not sure if that's what you were asking.

a speculative future soviet DLC would be incredible even without this, i'd certainly buy that. but no i understand definitely beyond the pale for a base game thing, but i was kinda asking more as a modding thing and i probably should have tagged as such sorry.

yeah i'm aware, the soviet institute of cybernetics is one of my top 10 favorite buildings (and i'm sad no one has even modded that in yet). But technically speaking the implants to make a cyborg are in and of themselves cybernetic. And i wish to use them to make the new soviet man out of metal.

Gotcha. FWIW such things can't be modded at least at the present time. Mods are limited to some scripting as well as new buildings and vehicles. Changes to or additional resources, needs, and so on are off-limits to mods.

As a sidenote, I am unsure of which Institute of cybernetics you're all referencing, but the faculty of cybernetics I knew way back when I was a wee student certainly did not deal in any of the above. Most of the courses were related to statistics, special mathematics, some cryptography and a lot of number crunching for strategic planning. Nowadays, I took a look on their website and they deal with mostly market analysis, statistics and strategic forecasting. Absolutely nothing related to Robocop, neither in the past nor the present, and most certainly unsuited for anything starting with the word "Cyber-".

the institute of cybernetics i referenced as my favorite building aesthetically is the "Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics" at st. petersburg. Which despite the name likely didn't do all that much research into robotic prosthetics. If that is the one you went to i would be curious to hear a first hand account of what it was like there.

but yes i'm well aware that the robocop sort of things is entirely anachronistic for the soviet union (and frankly beyond even our current day technology for the most part). And by and large the *actual* cybernetics in professional and academic research is as you've described. However it wouldn't be all that strange, there is the very banal and commonplace implants which have seen somewhat widespread use for decades. Implants such as hearing aids, pace makers, hip joints, plates and screws into bone, things which are by definition implanted augmentations cybernetic or otherwise. And while the topic has been flanderized by fiction (and some people who want to put chips in people's brains to surf the internet with), it is still an important aspect of life for a great many people and continued R&D into it has incredible potential for improving people's lives.

Cybernetics is (partly) the study of self-regulating systems. A heater with a thermostat or a body regulating its own temperature are cybernetic systems. So are self-governing and possibly in the future self-aware systems. We had some rudimentary cybernetic theory in our ecology class as i remember.
