Any similar games set in the US?
I feel like this developer has a lot of potential, I'd love to see them make a game like this set in the US.

Unfortunately, I doubt they might make one, so I'm curious if there's anything else like this, set in the US. I don't mean like Cities Skylines where the game plays itself, I want to have to do all the construction and manually place every building and hook the industries up and maintain vehicles and all that. I want equal or more depth than this game has, but set in the US, with vehicles and architecture from the US.

You can swarm Your game with mods that reflects Your desired architecture. I believe there are plenty.

You could check Captain of industry. Its a bit different game but similar in some key aspects.

Or as Nawdychany mentions, mods are option too. We already have a bit of american vehicles in the base game.

There are ton of user generated content like people above said. You can transform this game to be North American themed without any big issues by using mods.

And following Novu I will also link my own collection

Well that's interesting, I guess that means in that alternate timeline the Soviets also didn't get chased out of Afghanistan.

There's texture sets too which make roads and markings look a bit more American

How bout music and leaders/scientists or whatever? Anything that changes those?

Also, I don't own the game yet, been in my wishlist for ages, just been on a bit of a spike in interest in city building games lately, and Skylines just doesn't scratch the itch anymore. (Also skylines had started trying to brick my laptop any time I launch it with mods, so can't even play that anymore. All I wanted was a few mods to build a city set in Texas, can't have nice things. T~T)

Let me tell you this much.

Once you are infected with the WRSR-Fever you can't stop playing it.
Despite it's simulate some east block Republic you can make it easily look like some western country by using mods.

I admit that I'm a fanboy.
There are some posts criticizing parts of the game.
But I'm very forgiving for the game has some features that I have never seen in any other game.

Sometimes the roads are not that smooth as I wish them to be.
But basically that's all I can say about minuses.

You may want to have a look into my review which I wrote couple of years ago.

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198047838307/recommended/

There is a steep learning curve.
But the community here at steam is great.
If you get the hang of it you won't play anything else anymore.

Cities Skylines is Kindergarten against this.

Well, all the above is just my opinion.
But I'm sure you won't regret to give it a go.

Best regards.

Music mods already exist, scientists/advisors are simple pictures and tool to change every line of ingame text exist too so at this point you can change every visual aspect of the game.

Absolutely, I am day one player (I mean day one of EA) and still can't have enough.

Let's not forget that game was made from level editor of their HIND game and dev's didn't really expected this much success.

Curve is VERY steep, every new player should start from tutorials and campaigns and on sandbox games they should turn the difficulty one parameter at a time. Older players have an advantage in this as new mechanics were released gradually, but new players can easily get overwhelmed with amount of stuff they have to keep an eye on.

This game almost needs its own new genre class, because it is just so damn much more than a city builder. I can't really compare it to anything. The closest I can get is maybe saying it's like Factorio and the original Sim City, or Sim City 2000 (for level of info detail you could drill down on before city builders went easy mode) had a baby, but it's still so much more.

As MrKrabs said, the game has features I've never seen in any other game. Actually everything MrKrabs said above is bang on and what I would say even though I have a fraction of his playtime ;) OP by your opening post it looks like you're not looking for easy, which is good because mistakes, either active or passive ones, can have severe consequences. I have to keep notes. I have a to-do list that gets longer every time I try to knock off a few things. I love it. Last night I even got a little hypnotised going into first person view of one of my combines harvesting a field...

This game will scratch your itch.
(I haven't even bothered to update Satisfactory to 1.0 yet, and won't be for some time)

Yeah, I've watched various series on this game on youtube, I know it'll scratch the itch. I'm just very disappointed there's not many other city builders that focus on the resources and *BUILDING* part of city building, with having to worry about mining supplying fuel, maintaining your vehicles, manually laying roads with trucks assigning work crews to construction sites and all that other stuff.

Other 'city builder' games are a lot more hands off. This one actually *FEELS* like you're building the city and not just watching a city build itself.

well, that in a nutshell is the difference in setting.
wile in a socialism setting it makes sence that you (read: the state) decides what is getting to build how and where, in most more western focused settings you (read: the state) will allow zones to be used in one way or an other, but not realy decideing exact solutions.
somewehere in between would be some kind of colonie builder where you (read: the govenor?) has much more influence on what is going on, but on a much smaller scale.

so in a way, a game of that depth set in a western country does not make to much sence.
i see how you want something familiar, but perhaps you can also learn to love soulles blocks of concrete blackend by the soot from coal powerplants.
Dan Sep 19, 2024 @ 4:29pm
Yeah, the problem is, the US is pretty much the ideological opposite of a planned economy where the state provides everything.

Other city builders feel so hands-off specifically because they all base themselves on simulating a US-centric economic model. Money being the sole means and motivation to everything does tend to have that effect on a game.
Lex713 Sep 19, 2024 @ 5:16pm
It's really not the OP's concerns. OP wanted exactly what WRSR is but in NA visuals.
