Or as Nawdychany mentions, mods are option too. We already have a bit of american vehicles in the base game.

Well that's interesting, I guess that means in that alternate timeline the Soviets also didn't get chased out of Afghanistan.
Also, I don't own the game yet, been in my wishlist for ages, just been on a bit of a spike in interest in city building games lately, and Skylines just doesn't scratch the itch anymore. (Also skylines had started trying to brick my laptop any time I launch it with mods, so can't even play that anymore. All I wanted was a few mods to build a city set in Texas, can't have nice things. T~T)
Once you are infected with the WRSR-Fever you can't stop playing it.
Despite it's simulate some east block Republic you can make it easily look like some western country by using mods.
I admit that I'm a fanboy.
There are some posts criticizing parts of the game.
But I'm very forgiving for the game has some features that I have never seen in any other game.
Sometimes the roads are not that smooth as I wish them to be.
But basically that's all I can say about minuses.
You may want to have a look into my review which I wrote couple of years ago.

There is a steep learning curve.
But the community here at steam is great.
If you get the hang of it you won't play anything else anymore.
Cities Skylines is Kindergarten against this.
Well, all the above is just my opinion.
But I'm sure you won't regret to give it a go.
Best regards.
Absolutely, I am day one player (I mean day one of EA) and still can't have enough.
Let's not forget that game was made from level editor of their HIND game and dev's didn't really expected this much success.
Curve is VERY steep, every new player should start from tutorials and campaigns and on sandbox games they should turn the difficulty one parameter at a time. Older players have an advantage in this as new mechanics were released gradually, but new players can easily get overwhelmed with amount of stuff they have to keep an eye on.
This game almost needs its own new genre class, because it is just so damn much more than a city builder. I can't really compare it to anything. The closest I can get is maybe saying it's like Factorio and the original Sim City, or Sim City 2000 (for level of info detail you could drill down on before city builders went easy mode) had a baby, but it's still so much more.
As MrKrabs said, the game has features I've never seen in any other game. Actually everything MrKrabs said above is bang on and what I would say even though I have a fraction of his playtime ;) OP by your opening post it looks like you're not looking for easy, which is good because mistakes, either active or passive ones, can have severe consequences. I have to keep notes. I have a to-do list that gets longer every time I try to knock off a few things. I love it. Last night I even got a little hypnotised going into first person view of one of my combines harvesting a field...
This game will scratch your itch.
(I haven't even bothered to update Satisfactory to 1.0 yet, and won't be for some time)
Other 'city builder' games are a lot more hands off. This one actually *FEELS* like you're building the city and not just watching a city build itself.
wile in a socialism setting it makes sence that you (read: the state) decides what is getting to build how and where, in most more western focused settings you (read: the state) will allow zones to be used in one way or an other, but not realy decideing exact solutions.
somewehere in between would be some kind of colonie builder where you (read: the govenor?) has much more influence on what is going on, but on a much smaller scale.
so in a way, a game of that depth set in a western country does not make to much sence.
i see how you want something familiar, but perhaps you can also learn to love soulles blocks of concrete blackend by the soot from coal powerplants.
Other city builders feel so hands-off specifically because they all base themselves on simulating a US-centric economic model. Money being the sole means and motivation to everything does tend to have that effect on a game.
