It... could be better.
Edit: Found a possible, simple solution here https://steamcommunity.com/app/784150/discussions/0/3904116162876050062/
So in realistic mode (not sure if selling vehicles with the sell button also results in a negativ profit when not playing in realistic mode) it's more complicated to sell vehicles. And yes, it makes a bit sense that it actually costs you something. Think of the easy way by pressing the sell button like in real life if you would bring your car to the scrapyard. It will cost you money to do so. And the more complex way is the used car dealership, which gives you a little bit money for your used car.
I simply scrap them and collect the parts in the game, it's easier for me ^^.
(im on my first map and in realistic mode)
Good luck and much fun :-)
Gosh, I feel like a boomer ...
After 5 minutes research I found out that the scrapyards in Germany also buy your old cars, and I gzuess this is true in many countries. Made the same mistake with waste. At least 20 years ago you had to pay for dumping waste and scrapping cars. So historically this game mechanic still makes sense ^^
In the left side of the screen there is a button that open a windows regarding automatic replacements. In the top of this window you can select what should happen when your vehicle reach its lifetime end.
You can select several options such as auto replacement, and you can also tell to take vehicles from a storage or to send vehicles automatic to the scrapyard.
I cannot remember it can auto sell them, BUT just scrap them and you get resources you can sell instead..
It is also possible to manualy upgrade the oldest vehicles by clicking on the button inbetween two vehicles, and you can also select what kind of vehicle you like to upgrade to a newer model.
In the scrapyard building you can click a button that say something like
"keep materials" and then it save the steel, waste, aluminimum ect that you then can pickup and sell or use in your nation.
Remember it will only work if you have a the correct type of scrapyard example for vehicles, trains, ships, planes.
Some of them have to be connected to one of the airport buildings before it will scrap vehicles. ( i never tried the airport scrapping so i could be wrong but try. )
I think you on the above page can change the max age or wear and tear before replacement..
pro tip... if you select to autopurchase new vehicles or upgrade you better start saving allot of money.. just imagine if you buy 10 trucks that cost 15.000 rubler today and 20 years later they all are scrapped and it auto buy trucks for 150.000 in a short time.
So you need example always to have 1 million just to be safe.
But after 10-14 years of playing i dare to say its no problem you earn allot of money
