How do I find coal to mine?

Is there a way to see the coal easily? or how do I even find it?

There is a minimap overlay which shows coal deposits. If you have research enabled, you need to research 'Geological Survey' or something along those lines at the Technical University first.

Until you research the geo map you can only find coal by selecting the coal mine in the building menu and moving the ghost around the map until it shows a yield above 0%.

There is a nice mod with which you can hoover over potential resources without needing to flatten the area.
