Metro without above ground sections
Is it possible to build a metro without having an aboveground section of track that you have to provide with power? Just spent 2mil ingame building a metro loop to frustratingly find out at the end that not only the depot has to be built above ground but also both sides of the track have to run through an electrical connection?? It's a little absurd honestly that both sides of the metro line have to have a large aboveground section just to connect to power as a part of the main loop

Honestly this metro update was a huge let-down, they feel unnessesarily restricted, I genuinely don't understand why trains can't run both ways on a single line in a metro either, feels like its hard to have anything other than a really huge metro for a megacity

Yes, you can't make metro without aboveground section. Even the main loop needs to be partially aboveground, as you can't make a switch underground.

The main loop can be entirely underground if you build an underground end-station to serve as one end of the loop (they can turn around there); then you just build tunnels to it from the surface to allow metro trains in and out.

There is an underground electrical connection you can use for the metro.

It's completely true that you need to build an overground depot, though.

I also think metro is a letdown.

I'm not aware of any real-life metro/subway system that is fully underground (including the depots).

Honestly I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if power was shared to both sides of the track via the station or the rails could be powered by an end station alone, it's visually odd and makes planning arbitrarily harder having both sides of the loop tunnel way out of the ground for one just to run through the electrical junction. The overground Depot makes sense but I guess I don't get why you can't power the metro's 3rd rail from any of the underground infrastructure

The reason end stations block power is because the underground power connections do not. If power spread through end stations, it would be a lot easier for players to accidentally overload their connections, especially since the surface power connections do not let other surface power connections provide power past them.
