We need more rail-connected storage buildings!
The rail distribution office is one of the best things that has happened to the game, but its utility is severely limited by only being usable for buildings with direct rail connections. The game has no aggregate or liquid storages with direct rail connections, and I was disappointed to see that none were added in the recent public beta (as well as with the lack of rail connections on the larger warehouses added).

Rail distribution offices can use liquid and aggregate loading stations linked to storages by pipeline or conveyor, but when doing so, the distribution office doesn't "see" the storage level in the connected storage, which largely defeats the point of distribution offices. Simply having more storage buildings with direct rail connections would fix this.

There's no need to have buildings with rail connections as you just need a direct connection between the loading/unloading station and the storage. Only if you add a pump or conveyor tower or forklift in between will the DO not work properly.
I do like rail connections on some buildings because it's less clutter and potentially more realistic looking, such as the recently incorporated mod grain elevators with built-in rails.

Yep, any storage immediately connected to an un/loading facility is recognizable to any distribution office that can access that un/loading facility.

Thank you, I did not know that. That does open up more possibilities. My coal train loading station is indeed connected to the coal storage via a conveyor tower, I will have to see if I can do something about that.

I guess it's the same for the train platforms with factory connections? How does the train DO then treat multiple connected buildings storing the same resource and all containing different amounts?

I think a DO just sums all of the connected storages and sees how full/empty they are as a collective. How stuff gets distributed depends on the types of the various storages (normal, import, or export).

In general, this is correct, and it is also true when loading liquids. However, I always have the problem that the unloading stations of liquids do not see the fill level of the storage tank. Even if there is a direct pipeline between the unloading station and the storage tank.
Am I doing something wrong here?.

Hm, i think i have to correct me. It works, what means that the RDO can handle the refill but i don't see the fill level in the liquid loading station.

my RDO is not seeing properly the filling of my aggregate storage (coal), it keeps sending train, but the aggregate storage is full. I can understand a limit when you have several aggregate storages connected via one unloading station, but in my case, i have only have one..

First, there are modded storages with rail tracks connected to them.
Second, the RDO will see how much is in an aggregate or liquid storage if it's connection to the vanilla station is direct, e.g. there is no conveyor engine or pumping station inbetween.
