How many grain production ?
I'm interested from some experienced player that can answer the question of how much field, farms and crops production to build to run an exemple of a 20000 citizens republic, in a self-sufficient manner, and without importing crops (with one building of each "crops-feeded" industries running like chemicals, fabric, food, livestock, alcool).
In my play i have the feeling that i have to cover the entire map with farms to cover my needs for crops. And i have set a 60% fertility for farms and import a lot fertilizer.

I'll refer you to here for how many fields are needed.
How much farm equipment you'll need will vary, but I'd say that every 1000 tons you plan for will need a medium farm building at least.

One small/medium/big field can produce 33/100/300 t of crops with 100% fertility, fertility can be driven up by solid fertiliser/leftover previous season crops up to 150% with additional 50% available by liquid fertiliser spraying.

Rest is math. And you want to make more then you need to earn money for exports.

Btw one food factory can supply around 30-40k pop, alcohol even more (not needed anymore), rest. (chemicals, clothing, ...) are going even higher then that afaik and you will make these a lot for exporting anyway :)

my current map with around 75k pops, need ~40k crops with 1 food factory, 1 alcohol, 1 farm, and 2 big chemical plant run at 100% capacity
But it still lack of food, i guess it need araound 50k to 60k crops to build 1 more food factory

A simple way to estimate resource consumption, if you have an existing republic, is to look at the economy sheet - just look up people's domestic consumption of food during a year when your population was stable and take it from there. Doesn't matter if it's domestic production or imports.

Recently I built a new farmland with 3 medium farms, each with 10 large fields, 5 tractors, 5 harvesters and 12 trucks (2 in farm and 10 in DO), fertilizer import storages and a 5600 t of crop storage. Total production of 18000 t of crops per year, this should be able to sustain a 50 t/day consumption. With smart field layout and assignment it seems to work just fine.
