Assign buildings to hotkeys

I wish I could assign buildings (construction yards mostly) to the hotkey bar rather than just build menu stuff. That way when 'm setting up a new town I don't have half the screen cluttered with my construction yards, while I'm managing where they are building.

#note 1 - I am not advocating for longer work distance. I get that there is a limit for performance reasons.

#note 2 - If there is a way to do this after its mentioned how to please lock the thread and close it that way it falls off the front page quickly so I don't look as foolish.

Umm... not sure if it's available on the beta branch only but you CAN assign buildings to the hotkey bar - just select a building as if you wanted to place it down and click on a hotkey bar slot.

I often use an electrical substation as a "ruler" to measure ~250m range rather than counting 10x10m wireframe squares one by one.

I am on 0.8.1.13 and can confirm that you can indeed assign buildings to the Hotkey bar.

Edit: With careful re-reading of the original post, I suspect what was requested was a possibility to assign a Building Site to the hotkey bar. If so my answer is: No I have not managed to do that.
