When does the boring machine become available ?

There is a menu called the "List of Vehicles and Buildings" that can be accessed from the left menu bar; the icon for it looks like a handbook. This menu has a lot of nice information, including the years of production for all vehicles in the game. Just check the "Types availability" box at the top right and then select the category for the vehicle you want to see and then find it in the list.

Wow, not until 1968, Hm, have to build bridges instead of tunnels, what a bummer.

You can dig tunnels with workers alone. Boring machine is relatively recent addition. It will just take till '68 for them to do so anyway. :D

Do they just walk there ? as is in the middle of nowhere ?

Workers for building railways just need to be delivered to the RCO tasked with building the track.
