Problems lining anything up accurately
HI,
I want to line things up so they are all aligned but I cannot get it to work. When I try spinning a building to line up with a road it is always slightly off, every single time. I've tried using the icon in the bottom left of the screen to pin in place or whatever, both with it and without makes no difference. I've tried using the grid/mesh on the map and this does not help either.

Can anyone shed any light on what's wrong and how I'm supposed to get everything in nice lines/angles so my OCD doesn't send me loco?

Thx

First, CTRL+Mouse wheel decreases rotation angle. I believe the game displays it in the tips now when you plop buildings.

The best tip I was given here some time ago is to use decorative pavements for alignment. Saves me from a lot of tantrums.

You can rotate the building in "steps", but you can build the road at any angle.
So you have 2 options:
A) Build a building first, then align the road with the building.
B) Use the grid (F1) and build the roads at nice angles (90, 45, 30), then you can align the building with the road.

For green field projects, you might consider planning your buildings before you lay out your roads. Road alignment is less restricted than building alignment, so if you want one face of a building to parallel a road it might be easier to place the building first and then match the road to it than vice versa.

Turning on grid snap when laying out your roads may also help as this restricts the bearings on which straight road segments can be laid, which if you're careful and know how buildings rotate may allow you to lay out your roads in such a manner as to guarantee that buildings can be aligned to them.

If I recall correctly, buildings rotate 360 degrees in 128 'steps.' As such, a road on 30-210, 60-240, 120-300, or 150-330 degrees won't perfectly match any possible building alignment.

I build my roads and railways along the elevation lines so that there are few differences in height. This means they are always crooked, sloping and curved. I think it looks more real, natural and grown.
The grid doesn't work anyway.

Yep; specifically to place a building, then draw a decorative pavement along it and out to wherever you want the other buildings, and then place the other buildings on the line. You can also use the tool for measurement, which won't disrupt the ground texture below, but the decorative pavement has a crisper line to follow.

Getting roads to have 90° intersections can be forced by drawing a road up to the point it looks like such an intersection would occur (to put a node there), and then continue the road from there. Once that road is built as one segment, you can then connect the building to the road with a perfect 90° (or whatever angle) intersection.
