How long do citizens spend in stores?
Hi Comrades, I am trying to understand the math behind determining how many citizens a shopping center or any store can support. One key metric I am having trouble understanding is how long a shopper spends in the store. If I understand this I think I can figure the rest of the map but I cant find a clear answer on how much time each person spends.

Is this amount of time fixed and if so how long is a store visit? My best guess was an hour but I am really guessing.

Thank you!

Citizens always spend about 12 IRL seconds on slow speed to shop in a store or bar (so ~1/5 of a day), but the exact amount of "free time" used will vary according to the amount of stuff they want to buy.

Understood. is there a general rule or thumb calculation or formula that can be used to determine how many citizens a store will support? For example, if I have 5,000 citizens how do I know which store size would be able to accommodate each citizen visiting once per day and know the store has enough capacity?

There isn't really a definitive answer for a few reasons. Citizen demand is variable and the number of visitors a store can serve at a time depends on the overall productivity of its workers.

Assuming you have 100% productivity (easily achievable with most needs met and with adequate monument coverage), I would assume a store could support a number of workers (not a population #) equal to around 15 times the number of visitors the store can support.

An easy way to handle food, meat, clothes, and electronics is to have one shopping center in the center of a residential area and add grocery stores to the outer areas if the main store starts getting too full.

Got it. That is very helpful. I think I have been analyzing this from the wrong perspective and this helps a ton. Thanks!

You can follow citizens, i think it will be helpful for your understanding. Just click on a citizens icon in any window and click in the eye icon.
