Motorcycles and Bikes
Comrades!

Please can someone please make a motorcycle MOD? :)

Bicycles are tagged as a "maybe" feature on the official roadmap. I dont think it would be possible to mod it in as it would require a whole new mechanic to implement. Motorbikes however, should use the same mechanics as personal cars and should not pose a problem.

Bikes would be great. I imagine they would be distributed much the same way electronics are, and workers whom own one essentially would have extended "walking" range, shown as them cycling around.

There is also a bicycles factory as "planned" in the roadmap. I think new resource aluminium could be of use there ;)

Motorcycles would be nice for cities with a big population, but small space. There could be parking spots that are specific for motorcycles (bigger capacity for less space).

Something like that would be awesome! It could also increase their "walking" speed

people has done motorbikes, its basically a personal car though.

Perhaps personal motorcycles could be cheaper to produce, at the expense of allowing only one person to ride.
Personal cars, however, would allow multiple people to ride at a time, but would be more expensive to produce.

The problem is that the game would have to be reprogrammed to allow citizens to share their personal cars and this would probably add to the processing load cars already have.

Reprogramming also allows the old code to be optimised. It's not as hard as it sounds.
Allowing citizens to share one car would reduce the amount of cars needed, aswell as making HOV lanes possible.
Also I've thought up another benefit of motorcycles over personal cars, which is lane splitting, which especially would be useful for police motorcycles.

You're talking about going from a system where the game simply checks once for each citizen where they want to go in their car, to a system where each car owner would need to coordinate with other citizens to see if they can all go to the same area for their needs/jobs, have them wait until all of them enter the car (for each stop), and then consider if they all want to visit multiple stops or not (food and then hospital for example).

Then there are issues like the fact that free time needs scale with time spent traveling to work which can result in them spending all their free time trying to satisfy them even when transportation is not an issue.

It's not going to be more simple, optimized or not.
