1) Powerplant/imported power connection (powerplants must be supplied with according fuel)
2) High-voltage and medium-voltage cable (several types, the difference being the power capacity a cable is capable of transporting)
3) Transformer, which transforms high-voltage to medium-voltage
4) Electric substation which transfers power to the buildings
Optional but highly recommended: Switches. Switches are these buildings, in which you connect your cable in order to make a branch to your electric line. With a small switch you can make one branch, and with a big switch you can make four branches.
The basic formula is:
> have a powerplant/imported power connection
> draw a high-voltage cable from the plant/connection
> connect the high-voltage cable to a transformer
> draw medium-voltage cables from the transformer to the electric substations
> electric substations wirelessly give power to your houses
Good to know:
1) You need several substations to supply energy to your city. One is not enough. The buildings tell their electric capacity, but I don't know math, I just know the adequate amount from experience.
2) Powerplants and heaters can supply energy and heat wirelessly from themselves in around 500m radius. I don't know why, but thats how it is. Further than that, they require cables.
3) Oil-powerplant is the easiest. It can use crude-oil as fuel which doesn't require any refining. Solarpowerplant only works at day, windmill only when windy. They are very good additions, but in low amounts they are unreliable. Only the richest and most powerful republics can produce their energy only from wind & solar energy. Coal is decent power source, but coal must be mined and then refined before it can be used for heating or power. Nuclear power is super powerful obviously, but it requires massive production capacity from your republic, as the uranium needs to be mined, then enriched, then processed to fuel before it can be used in a nuclear power plant. You also have to deal with nuclear waste. So far there is no way to process nuclear waste, so you just end up dumping it somewhere.
