Recovering a vehicle that is out of fuel in realistic mode
Has anyone some insights on recovering a vehicle that is out of fuel in realistic mode?

Searching these discussions no previous discussions came up in my search.

My current solution is just sell the vehicle. Which oddly enough I can do anywhere, anytime. I find it an annoying solution since it cascades in a host of consequence that need to sorted out afterwards with construction offices, farms and what not.

I would prefer to collect the vehicle with an open hull vehicle larger enough to carry that to a vehicle depot to have it refuel. Or a button to teleport it back to its station and have it refuel there.

Any insights or alternative -- other than selling the vehicle -- solutions are appreciated.

place a gas station within the search radius (1,5km or so). As soon as the tanker truck unloads fuel here, the truck will go to refuel and then continue on with its tasks. If this happened once and the truck was not intended to be a one-time route, then a gas station should be placed somewhere in this area.

Sending the vehicle to the vehicle depot with the change "home" button should ignore the empty gas tank. The vehicle will take more fuel the next time it fills up, but it's better than paying for disposal.

If I'm not mistaken, sending the stranded vehicle to any depot will send it moving regardless of fuel. This is the intended way to solve the issue as far as I know.

This is correct and works fine

In my game there were several Construction Office vehicles within a 100 meter range of an active, filled and running fuelstation. They ignored that fuel station. I gave the game engine some time to figure that out. The engine had the vehicles just standing there reporting traffic jams with those vehicles. In some cases the out of fuel vehicle produced a serious traffic jam because other vehicles can pass the out of fuel vehicle in the opposite direction. When returning and wanting to pass they get stuck behind the out of fuel like when a vehicle breaks down. Might be badly intertwinning vehicle behavioral code.

I will be using the 'send to (other) depot'-trick in my future gaming.

Perhaps so. I'm having similar problems.
