Citizen won't use my train station.
Hi all,

I'm having some trouble getting my citizen automatically to my fabrics. I have build a Metro line as a circle to bring my plebs to the industrial area. Works fine, no issues here.
Later on I build my Bauxit mines a mile away from my industrial area.

So I build a train station near one of my Metro stops, connected them with a footpath, and created a new line that travels between this train station and one at my Bauxit mines. My issue now is, that none of my citizen walk to the traion station :-(

For testing purposes I added the train station to the "unspecified building where citizens should go" in the Metro stop and voilà, they now walk to the train station hop in the train, drove to the Bauxit mines and worked there. The issue here is, now everyone leaves the Metro at this stop and went to the train station and my noone worked at my industrial area anymore :-/.

I also have currently 200 citizens without work that should automatically use the Metro to visit the train station and take the train to my Bauxit mines.

Is there anything I miss, or is it just not working, because it's not implemented to use multiple, different kinds of transportations to go to the work place?

If you want to "split" the people flow at metro stations, your options are:
1. Continue using "where citizens should go" option. You could also set "max percentage to unload" to below 100 at this metro station. This would limit number of workers that will switch to railway to your desired number.

2. Use "unload & force transfer" option at metro stations. This will make everybody unload and wait for one hour. Then, they'll re-evaluate their options and some might choose to switch to railway station if there's no more work available down the metro line . It seems in your case this option is less reliable.

The game, contrary to common state-of-the-art in transportation games, is incapable of routing a citizen to a fixed thought-in-advance destination (i.e. route him).

All the player can do is to treat the "mass of citizens" as a whole and try to manually direct all or part of it to certain destinations. That's the main reason why citizens don't have a fixed job place or they just teleport back home after work.

From my experience, you have more open work slots than you have workers. The ones boarding your train decided to work in the bauxite mines, leaving none left for the other industry. You can play this a bit with the percentage value in the unload section, but be aware that is not really working for metros.

The load / unload percentage is calculated by the maximum passenger capacity, and not the actual passengers. So in case of a metro which carries huge amount of pleeps it's hard to control.

Best way to counter the issues (what I'm doing here) is to increase the amount of workers boarding the train, and check the unemployed if they have jobs in range (meaning also busstations etc. that are in walking range). Finally, make sure the settings in the destination bus / trainstation splits up the workforce.

Thank you very much to all 3 of you!

That cleared things up for me and I'll play around with the settings on the stations.
Another option is of course, to extend the train line and build a train station at the city. That will take some time as I'm playing on realistic and everything set to hard ^^
