Railroad
What and how can be connected to enjoy a functioning railway? I built a railway depot, a construction office and a distribution office.
I don't know how to start track construction

You place tracks and confirm them.

You need a track-layer machine. It can be purchased on the border. Important thing is to buy the smallest one - you have to transport it with standard truck to the rail construction office.

Rail construction office needs track layer, workers and materials. Once all this is secured you can start building. Keep in mind that once you connect rail construction office to the border crossing (big one, with rails) you can buy more powerfull track-layer. I guess it is worth doing, since building tracks takes a lot of time. On the other hand you may not want to have more than one, since they may stuck, unless you properly place semaphores.

Also make sure to buy the disassembled track layer or you will not be able to transport it with a vehicle

How to load a track laying machine onto a truck?
Spec Feb 23, 2024 @ 1:33am
You need to buy a disassembled track layer from the customs house…then assign a flat bed to load the truck and deliver it to the track builder
failsafe Feb 23, 2024 @ 1:37am
You can do it by creating a line with two assigned points, and then you mark icons with vehicles as a loadout (below other resources).

This is a bit tricky at first. In order to be able to create the truck to pick up your dissassembled track builder, place the truck in a simple road depot (set as home). Then you can add waypoints to the truck, and in the load and unload option you can select the vehicle button.

Make sure the (open hull) truck is able to transport the weight of the vehicle. Then deliver it to the railroad construction center, and when this has ressources and workers, the track builder starts working.

@failsafe
That's what I tried to do. The car reached the border... and didn't load anything even though it had enough capacity.
When I check the sets in the vehicles tab that can transport it (22 T), it only shows ships.
Why do you have to literally go through everything here? The game is great but nothing is clear.
I lived in a communist country and believe me - things like transporting important cargo were handled by calling the party committee.

@starman01
I'll stick with it, the game is worth it

THis game is very complex and has quite a learning curve, especially playing in realism. :) I do too, and often pulled out some hair. But it's so much more satisfying building up the city, but it's not easy, lot of planning and sometimes a fight till you learned the mechanics. Expanding further inland as an example is a logistical nightmare :)

Not sure if there are trucks that can carry ships (?), but to be sure just use the
"SKD 706 RTTN "open hull truck to transport the AGMu..... Note that not all open hull trucks can carry vehicles, it must be noted in the cargo carrying descrition.

Because you have purchased track layer that is too big for standard transport. Dont sell it, you may use it later, when you connect border with tracks, but for now buy the smallest one - it is about 7-8 tonnes big, so it is perfectly transportable by trucks. And yes, those big track layers can be transported only by ships... or they can travel on already placed tracks ;-).

I had this problem as well, I've lost a lot of time before I figured why my large track layer cant be transported ;-P

This game is very complex, and this complexity is actually a thing why you may love it some day. Just keep in mind that unlike in Cities Skylines doing even simple things take a really long time. And this is part of the fun: setting things delivers so much satisfaction, that I dont even need a final city ;-P

Ah yes, as failsafe says... Double check you buy the transportable track layer.... You can find it under the "dissassembled" category in the customs office. Only this vehicle can be transported by truck.

I found :):):)
A bit of the translator's fault, but the important thing is that it worked.
Thanks a lot !!!!

However, I give up. They went too far with the train tracks. Why make it so complicated?
Thank you for your help

What do you think is too complicated about them?
taltybios Feb 25, 2024 @ 4:17am
Train traffic - lights, turnouts, intermediate stations. I've been trying for several hours and I'm tired of trial and error.
Strategic Sage Feb 25, 2024 @ 4:37am
Two parts to that. In terms of the why, it's largely just a requirement of what trains inherently are. They can't work like trucks on a road do, so you need semaphores/signals/whatever you wish to call them to direct the traffic.

The types of stations are not particularly different from what you have with road vehicles; there are distribution offices for both, depots for both, cargo loading/unloading stations for both, and so on. They function similarly in that respect.

For traffic, a train track supports only travel in one direction at a time - it wouldn't be a train track otherwhise - while a road typically has one lane in each direction. Trains have a huge variety of lengths and you can mix and match different types of wagons if you wish. That means a different approach is needed to a rail network than a road one, otherwhise deadlocks and collisions would happen all the time. The way train signalling works in WRSR is quite similar to the way it is done in many other games that have trains such as Factorio. There has to be a certain amount of complexity to it or it's not really representing how trains work.

I would suggest not relying mostly on trial and error if you want to learn them, but on the available learning materials; tutorials in the game, guides here on Steam, YouTube video demonstrations, asking *specific* questions here on the forums, etc.

It appears from your earlier posts in the thread that you are biting off too much to chew at this stage. I would lower the settings you are using and not build everything yourself to give yourself a better opportunity to learn the mechanics. Once you understand better how things work, you'll be in a better position to work on the construction aspect of them.

Or if you find it too much to deal with, you can do a lot in the game without trains. I'm aiming this at helping you learn it, but simply deciding that another kind of game would be best for you could be a reasonable option also.
