Colors of railway blocks
What do the colors of the railway blocks mean?

When you enter the "edit mode" for railroads e.g. by selecting one o the signals tools, the blocks are displayed in different colors: dark blue, light blue, orange, purple, green.

Do they have any semantic or are they just to visible distinguish blocks from the others? And if the actally mean something: what do they mean precisely?

blue = single segment of rail
orange = junction bordered only by single segments
other colors = junction bordered by at least one other junction, more adjacent junctions is more colors. Preferably to be avoided but exceptions can be made.

Explaining the exceptions is above my pay grade, i just go on experience. But generally: only simple adjacent junctions only on not-so-busy parts of the network, use at your own risk. Lots of junctions close together: better leave it as one large junction.

Do the colors somehow indicate that something's right or something's wrong with the signals?

Signals split up the network into segments, and so you can create multiple adjacent junctions (colors other than blue and orange) which is generally a bad thing.

There are rumours, that blue and orange is good, purple and other colors are bad, but it is oversimplification in my opinion.

As mentioned by bspawn, different colors means just different junctions blocks connected together.

It doesn't mean anything wrong, but inexperienced players may run into deadlocks, if they are for example placing semaphores between switches and two or more train proceed into the middle of junction, blocking each other. If player know how to use presignals and tracks are uni-directional, different colors are usually OK.

No. The different colors are solely for differentiating blocks from one another. They do not predict any potential issues with pathing or signalling.

At most, later colors (green, purple, cyan, white) are an indication of complexity.

Thank you for all your contributions.
They support my opinion.
I have therefore corrected the Wiki entry on Fandom[workers-resources.fandom.com].
There were some ... differences, but now it seems to be okay to me

Titule, in your guide: "Tunnels can't be used under a depth of 0m" - is it still true in current version? New map from campaign have tunnels between islands.

if there are more mistakes, my all means correct them, I and many others will be very grateful
