Border jam
Hello, it's been a year since my last game. I built three roads to the border, but all cars used only one road => big traffic jam.

Is this problem still there?

It's usually not so much that they only use one road, but that only one vehicle can drive in the customs houe at a time, which has been stated is WAD. Even if the vehicles were to use the three roads evenly, it would simply split the traffic jam over those three roads, as the jam is caused by the customs house being extremely limited as to the amount of traffic it can support.

If you want more road vehicles to be able to use the border customs house, you can use the Improved Customs mod, which makes it so more than one vehicle can drive in the customs house at one time: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2091824985

Great answer :-)!! This mod is perfect. Thx for your help.

No problem, it was one of my own annoyances as well especially starting in Realistic mode, since getting railroad up and running is not such an easy task.

This have been changed in the vanilla game. I have just observed all bays at the border post used at the same time. They work slowly (checking papers?).

Seems you do not need it anymore unless the mod improves speed at the border.

No need for mods. Just mid lane out and sides in (3 lane customs) as in tutorial xD

that's not what that mod does(at least not when I used it).

Mod allows for 2(or more) cars to enter/exit the customs at the same time. Vanilla only 1 is, so when all bays are full 1 car will leave the customs, and all other cars wait till that 1 car has left the building, then 1 other will enter or exit. Mod allows for more cars to enter/exit at the same time, speeding thing up a lot.

As Mudkest mentioned above, this is not what the mod does. The vanilla borderpost uses all bays, but only one vehicle can move at once inside the building (so one vehicle can enter, while everything else waits until it has gone fully into it's own bay, then one vehicle can start to exit, and so on) The mod makes it work like the larger factories where the vehicles enter from the entry side and exit by going around so that one vehicle entering or exiting doesn't block any other vehicle from moving around at the same time.

The mod does cause inconsistent graphics when new vehicles are bought at the border and they start to exit the customs, but otherwise it works and speeds up the vehicle lines as all bays are utilized more fully and the limiting factor isn't the speed of vehicles entering or exiting the building one at a time.

This is not a 'problem', it's a feature. It's good to encourage the player to find ways around a sensible backlog at the border.

would this affect trains as well? can you have a train entering/leaving and a truck entering/leaving at the same time?

Try to build a rail connection to a short distance rail cargo platform as fast as you can.

Trains will immediately solve traffic congestion at the customs, and most rail cargo platforms can be connected to many depots and road distribution points so you can solve traffic congestion on 1 spot too, by distributing it all around the the rail cargo platform.

I build back on my old save (on my dead HDD :'C) also three roads to the border station but much longer than you would usually and out of gravel so i was able to build signs.
I set the signs on the three roads up so the center road is for outcoming traffic meanwhile right and left are for incoming traffic, when I had a lot of buses go to the border i restricted the left road only for buses, so right incoming traffic, center for outcoming traffic and left for incoming bus traffic.

With asphalt roads you have the possibility to set roads to one-way so you can store more traffic on one road because your traffic uses both lines of the road (doubled capacity).

Best way of dealing with borders is to have distribution offices and intermediate storages for what you need. For realistic mode there are free ones and they work well enough and if placed strategically, such hub speeds up construction of the city dramatically!
