They removed realistic quarry system, one of few industries with unique mechanics and replaced with more conveyors when the game already suffers so much from connecting everything via coneyors. It would have been better to just let the gravel processing plants produce gravel directly.
Who says you have to connect the conveyors, adding options to players is always the best solution.
Hopefully the conveyor option will at least be more expensive to build than buying trucks so that players might have to weigh convenience and price in their decision making.
Option of fantasy quarry was there in the mods, along with other stuff that can make your game easier. Vannila should lean towards realism, challenge and flavour (unique mechanics); thats how this game distinguishes itself from other city builders.
One golden rule of game design is that if you give players a choice, they will optimize fun out of a game. In city builders/econ sims especially making optimization too easy and then having player add constrains in his head is GREATLY detrimental to fun. Why do you think there was so much demand for realistic mode, even if one could easily play according to those rules before it was implemented?
Currently the optimal way to play is just to cluster all the industries together with conveyors and factory paths. And it disincentivizes players from engaging with core element of the game, which is the logistic simulation (trucks/trains). We need mechanics to encourage player to spread out his republic and not to cluster it all together.
Its really a wider problem with games in active development. Unexperienced devs listen to loudest players who want to trivialize the fun out of a game.
I'm afraid that a new quarry with a conveyor might turn out to be cheaper than several trucks...
Maybe it makes sense to block with research? "open quarry" which will unlock a new quarry
stone and will be required for the study of a bauxite quarry.
I always do trucks or trains for my personal roleplay.
But having it optional should satisfy players who desire working with the belts.
I know that there are many occasions where I can be more effective.
But I ignore them and stick with my personal roleplay.
That's gonna be a addition.
Who says you cant use conveyors for quarry in reality ? its already in practice at real life. The issue is its costly. That is why you see most of the time trucks and excavators and dynamite blasting. Dynamite is the most productive and cheapest .
