why do we get a choice as to how long it is. is there a benefit to having it short or long i don understand.

Big planes need large runways, around 700 meters, or else they can't take off.

Some airplanes need ~250m, one needs 450m, some need 700m, and a few need ~1000m.

Is that what you were talking about in another thread on the forum? I didn't think about it and didn't pay attention to whether it was possible to transport fuel. In general, the transport of materials by plane is not very efficient, probably even less than by car... returning to the topic of fuel transport... maybe there is a mod plane, but I don't know if the cargo terminal can load fuel....

Barring outliers like the TU-144, airplane fuel efficiencies and throughput/cost ratios are about on par with the upper end of trucks and buses like the Skd 706 RTTN. They are better suited for long distances (6+ km) though.

Vanilla airplanes cannot move fuel unless you have the Ukraine DLC and it is 1994 or later, but helicopters can.

The only way to transfer fuel by air is by the "ferry" method. Essentially, you load oil trucks with fuel and then send them to a space for vehicles where an aircraft (I recommend the Mi-10 cargo helicopter) loads them and takes them to another space for vehicles. Then you tell the trucks to unload at the airport or wherever you want the fuel, and then you can airlift them back. Coal can be moved in the same way.

There is also a mod for fuel containers too, which can be airlifted and emptied automatically.

Planes in reality also don't transfer fuel, AFAIK.
Not that the argument "realism" counts in a world where teleporting is common...
