Installing mods?
I'm new to the game. I went to the workshop and subscribed to some building mods, but when I play a game, even a new start, I don't see them anywhere. How do I activate them?

Also, I've enable realistic mode, and am trying to follow a video for getting started, but the video has all kinds of 'free' things, like seven construction offices, and I don't see those anywhere either. Any help would be welcomed.

You need to go to the Mods tab in the menu to the left and select the option to display all mod items in the bottom menus. Otherwise you can find things in the mod menu.

I've gone to the Workshop tab on the left, I assume that's what you mean, but it doesn't make anything appear. I haven't been able to find a 'mod menu.' Where is that?

The only mods that have shown up have been those required by a map with a 1900 start date. The same mods don't show up if I make a random map.

By default, mods will not show in the normal menus, only in the mod menu. To change this, you can choose either the "favourites only" option, in which case mod items you click the star on will be displayed; or you can select to show all. If you have many mods for one type of building, some might not show up.

Yes, I've gone to that menu, and nothing appears there. If I go to the workshop, the mods show that they are subscribed to. I have changed all the settings in the mod menu many times, but nothing happens, either there, or on the the bottom tool bar. Is there some special step I'm supposed to take so that the mods show up in the mod menu?

No, it should be working fine. Do you have multiple drives? Maybe it's some pathing issue?

I have an external drive that I use for data backups for important stuff, it's got no link to anything game related. I guess I'll try unsubscribing from the mods and trying again. Thanks for your help. At least I won't waste a lot of time looking for a 'missing step.'

Well.... I unsubscribed from all the mods. I had to forcequit the game because I couldn't back out of the workshop screen and the game menu wouldn't activate after I closed the workshop with the x button. I went to relaunch the game, but Steam insisted on installing an update and relaunching, and then I launched the game- and all the mods that I just removed are now in the mods menu. I don't know if it's Steam, or I'm just cursed.

I'm glad it worked out, very odd situation : )

Yeah, it's weird- I shut down the game, shut down Steam, restarted everything to see if it would disappear, but it's still there. How you subscribe to something by unsubscribing from it is beyond me.
