Trucks should work like trains...
I thought I had, why doesn't trucks (semi trailers) work like trains? When I buy a truck (semi tractor unit) it should not come with a trailer, the trailer should be bought separately. In a Distribution Office I should then have, say, 4 trucks (semi tractor units) and, like, 10 different trailers that the trucks can use depending on what they are tasked to transport.

Also, trailers should be available to rigid trucks...

Would this be to complicated for players? I just feel that this game is so heavy on realism that this is an oversight.

I like that idea.

My impression so far is that it's not the complexity for the players that limits the game, but the complexity for the programmers :)
In other words: if they like the idea and have time to implement it, they might do it.

That may be your impression, but since teleporting is an important part of the game I don't think you can really argue with realism.

I think your idea for semi-trucks is really good though. Would be a DLC that I would possibly even buy.

Good idea! I also would like to have new trailers and trucks for car transportation. I dont like that it looks like Im transporting bobby cars when exporting my brand new cars. Why not adding car trailers or tow trucks?

I think it's an excellent idea and maybe in future the devs may want to implement something in that direction.

It certainly can be more realistic, i have once operated trucks IRL like that as well, picking up already loaded semi-trailers at companies, and also picking up and delivering semi-trailers without ever opening them, just passing them on as it were, especially when they were getting shipped on ferries to other countries or coming off ferries. I am talking about semi-trailers, not containers.

This could add another building type : a (semi-)trailer transfer. But it is very close in similarity to container transport that is already in the game. as in most cases the semi-trailer then acts like wheeled container.

Yup. I love messing with trucks almost as much as trains so this would be great. AND then let me free-drive a truck in first person view so I can p/u trailers with this cab and run emergency deliveries at will ;) (while you're at it, give me an air horn to toot)

Most of the trucks come in sets and you can buy different trucks out of the set to do different things. Now it would be less expensive if each truck could simply go back to the depot and change trailers and you only bought on tractor for each of them BUT most trucks set up on a line keep using the same trailer to do the job assigned to them. If another job requires a different trailer well that tractor above likely doesn't have time, its has its job to do so you'd need another tractor anyway and you'd buy one with the trailer required.

This is a pretty cool idea to have in the game and use for if and when it's needed. Perhaps like a construction office with a factory connection, and a trailer yard associated to it so you can have a truck be a dumper, a flatbed, covered, so on and so forth. As for distribution offices, I can see it working as well since the trucks always go back to the office anyway.

That's a great idea @Mrwissan. Trailer yards for factories and other truck related buildings would be a great addition! :)

Exatly, the mechanics are already in the game (with trains and containers)
